I don't think they panicked, they just understood what had to be done to secure Kawhi/PG for the next 4+ years and paid the steep price.

I don't see the clippers being automatic favorites on the strength of this trade tho. Paul George is a good player but he's not all that. Him and Russ got somewhat exposed against Portland.
