Judge knocks down NBA star Kawhi Leonard’s claim that Nike stole copyright of his ‘Klaw’ logo

U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman ruled that the logo Nike designers helped create with Leonard marked an “independent piece of intellectual property’’ that was distinct from the original sketch Leonard initially conceived and shared with Nike.

“It’s not merely a derivative work of the sketch itself,’’ the judge ruled from the bench after an hour of oral argument held by phone as well as multiple briefs filed in the case. "I do find it to be new and significantly different from the design.''

I tried to tell people...he had no case. Essentially, all he did was brainstorm with Nike.

But you ok with Kawhis team being known MAGA :sas2:

:francis:

I love Kawhi as a player...even if he's moved on from the Spurs.
But Uncle Dennis ....:francis:
Got him outta San Antonio when he lost trust in them, secured a lucrative shoe endorsement and a head of their brand, won a their first ring for a wack franchise, got a max contract back home as he always wanted, and acquired PG, someone he trusted as his sidekick.

The process ain’t always pretty getting what you, but I understand why y’all wouldn’t know that.

This right here is the most important part. If they truly told him he has to pursue legal action against people using the logo then he has a strong case. Also they refer to the logo as Kawhi's and Kawhi has used the logo to advertise camps with no association with Nike. Essentially it seems like Nike was a work for -hire commissioned to create a logo for him. But if that's the case then can't Nike ask for compensation in some form for creating the logo?

Except Kawhi did trust the Spurs.
His uncle just wanted more power and didn't get it.

Kawhi also already had a title.
And his uncle cost him like 80 million dollars.

..but I understand why you wouldn't know that.

The 80 mill would’ve never happened bc he didn’t want to stay in San Antonio nikka. You tryna count imaginary money. He dipped, got a shoe deal, won another ring on another team, and still got a max deal at the place he wanted to go all along.

you probably one of them weirdos that wanted him to stay in San Antonio :heh:

The 80 mil would have been on the table if he didnt play games with his rehab.
