Chris Rock has never been a boss. That was never his lane.

He was never entrenched enough in the industry to be in a position to put people on. That's just not who he is.

Vey few black comedians put people on. The most famous example being Martin Lawrence. Martin Lawrence has done more for urban comedy than just about any other comic outside of Pryor. To be fair, he had Russell Simmons backing the operation.

Nick Cannon, for all of his faults, has put on a ton of comedians. (Don't consider him a comedian tho.)

Right now Kevin Hart is another. He's putting comedians on a few and producing their content through his Hart Production company. Its a smart business move.

Tony Rock was a recurring character on Everybody Hates Chris :dwillhuh:.

Plus Tony Rock might have wanted to forge his own path, so people didn't think he was riding his brothers coattails.

Chris Rock was responsible for W. Kamau Bell getting his talk show on FX.

He also went to bat for Leslie Jones to get her on SNL.

The position they are in now is in-part due to being writers for Chris Rock. :francis:
Just because they were doing standup prior to that doesn't mean he ain't help their careers. A lot. :francis:
