Because it is owned by AOL and is an outside branch of warner brothers it is allowed to exist as sort of a rogue news outlet.
So they are able to do things that are considered unjournalistic for lack of a better term. In decades past famous folks probably would have sued them. But due to them only attacking stars and famous folks now a days not really wanting the bad PR when fighting back. A trash gossip organization like TMZ is allowed to exist without being checked.
Its a sad state of affairs for modern journalism. Which has consistantly over the past 2 and a half decades been swimming in a cesspool of filth (in terms of dumbing down America). Than actually reporting real news as it once did many years ago.

This is the thing: there will always be another year of talent to replace the following year's. Even the phrase "generational talent" implies there will be another.
Whether the NBA, NFL, music industry, movie industry, etc. everybody is expendable.
Business 101:
The company is there to make sure no one piece will bankrupt it by destroying its brand and reputation.
That said player/entertainer/employee needs to be smart enough to recognize that the company is approaching every situation with this principle. It's their responsibility to realize what's at stake for them as a person and for their families. Under no circumstances should you let a 19 year old frustrate you enough to risk losing everything.
