Using Drum machines and keyboards doesn't mean you're devoid of talent though.
Classic and highly revered songs have been
been written using straight Drum samples
and synths.

I think it depends what you do with the sample. Late 90's Bad Boy sampling takes zero talent/effort/creativity but cats like Premo are more creative than most people who play all live instruments.
