You forgot to add Ozwald Boateng to your list.

Ozwald has been on since '95 and has had his lookbook styled by two of his former employees (both of African descent) who started a design team for years, so - yeah, he's Ghanaian - but he's from a different generation from the other two, and he's had plenty of time to make his moves.

Edward Enniful has been editor in chief at British Vogue since last summer. Naomi Campbell has been all over the place since he gave her the contributing editor gig - hopefully he has her out there scoping new talent when she goes out to events like Fashion Week in Lagos.

Virgil has been at LV less than 6 months, so we'll see what change he gets to affect and who he brings in and endorses.

Can someone breakdown how Kanye held Virgil back all those years?

He didn't hold him back. What Drake was talking about made no sense. Kanye was probably a bit jealous and upset that LV instead of working with him poached his talent but he never held Virgil or anyone back.

He didn't.

So lets just ignore the fact that when Kanye was asked was he happy about Virgil getting the LV gig his response was “We were suppose to be still working on DONDa”

Kanye was leeching offf Virgil for years and his fashion has taken a huge hit since he left

I didn't think he'd bounce back from that stupid ass pyrex brand.

His off white shoes are nice but he be stealing designs n shyt on just about everything else.

That includes pulling a V-lone and printing his shyt off Gildan Ts and marking them bytches up about 70 dollars.

That’s what art is especially fashion just stealing.

Off white is a joke but I’m happy Virgil is getting rich and recognition off his own vision and it’s not Kanye taking all the credit

Kayne's ass is the one who started the wearing weird runway type shyt in real life andand having his shyt fit like a model. That nigg single handedly moved urban clothing designs out the way. Nobody speaks on that though.

Everyone acknowledges Kanye’s influence on fashion

He's the creative director of LV menswear.
It's big not only for him as an American (American designers don't really get love like that with the Euro fashion houses), let alone an African-American at that.
they had americans recently like marc jacobs
but it is huge for da culture

But being unhappy is not the same as holding him back. The nikka went from a complete nobody to heading one of the biggest fashion brands in the world in less than a decade. If Drake said I could never have a Virgil in my circle and be jealous or something like that then he’d be right. The nikka said hold him back.

You don’t think Drake has more info on the situation than the public?

Fashion/style/fly shyt has always been hip-hop. Given how long we’ve dictated style, I think it’s dope to see someone like Virgil take the reins at a brand like LV, or Dapper Dan finally get the recognition he deserves.

I completely agree. I'm not a fashion head or know much about it other than what I like to wear but good to see people knowing their shyt and seeing black people come up in a typical white industry

That’s a watershed moment, how many Black or American creative directors are there for a major hell even minor fashion house esp with how much they copy urban/street styles? Props to the man. Plus Ye has had all his meltdowns before, I’m not mad at it.

Edit I didn’t realize breh wasn’t American but they def don’t have African creative directors.

Who told you he wasn’t an American?

Breh was born in Illinois.

To Ghanaian parents.
