Would you guys part with a 4th or 5th to get Andre Johnson for the rest of the season?
He's slowed but is still a great route runner, run blocker and red zone threat and could mentor Matthews.
Would be a bold move but he has traits that Chip loves and we have the cap space....
I would but they wouldnt do it.
1. We have cap space right now sure... but we still have to resign Foles (maybe and likely) Kendricks and I think Cox.
And also some guys are due a pay increase, which will definitely change our cap situation next year.
Andre Johnson makes alot of guaranteed money with his current contract and he is not on the final year of his deal.
2. Also I think if Chip was going to trade for anybody he would have done it by now. His offense is learned during OTAs and Training Camp, it takes some time to learn the playcalls I assume. It would make sense to do it before the bye week.
3. Also we still gotta play the Texans this year, when the rare NFL trade occurs, Teams are always reluctant to trade a player to a team that will face upcoming in the schedule. Worst thing ever if the former player turns up on you and embarasses you.
Maybe next year, if he is released or on the market by the Texans. But our hands are tied with the KKKooper contract until after next year (where he can be released with minimal adverse cap consequences), and to be honest I would rather have Maclin (who has a one year deal) back resigned than go after the aging Johnson.
