:win::win::lolbron: I'm close to agreeing. He did say " my killer my thriller yea it's a classic"... It's a close second for me. I don't think Thriller had negative reviews or people hoping it would suck though. :yeshrug:Gotta do some
research.

Edit: no negative reviews for the Thriller album when it came out but the intro single " The Girl is Mine" got shytted on in every one  So that's a bit of a similarity but that's where it ends. This might be JTs "Thriller" tho. It's selling like crazy.:stylin:

Do you mean in terms of sales? The highest selling album last year sold 8 million. Also, another thing to consider:

"Michael Jackson was issued a number of awards due to the recording of "Thriller." In 1984, he was awarded a record-breaking seven Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. He also won eight American Music Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards."

"Thriller" was the number one selling album for 37 weeks, and spent 80 weeks in the Billboard Top 10. At one time, it had seven singles in the top 10 and became the best-seller for both 1983 and 1984."

Now if you are trying to correlate jt's album to Thriller in terms of this being his magnum opus then maybe, it remains to be seen. It's a solid pop effort, that "mirrors" song will do numbers and get radio play and downloads.

I just think a little more perspective needs to be had, from all sides. People have the tendency to want to be able to say that they were there "when the best thing ever happened." A lot of people on this board weren't even born when Thriller came out, or if they were, they were too young to know what they were listening to.

Back when MTV used to play videos, they didn't even play videos from Black artists, Thriller changed all of that. The album crossed all boundaries. 20/20 doesn't have to do that because it benefits from the foundation that Michael Jackson laid down.

Im not going to shyt on JT's album, but it is just a well produced pop album, that will be force fed to us, so people will eat it up, some people wont. Until something with a little more feeling and depth to it comes out, he will have the majority of the masses attention, but even nowadays our attention span is short lived.

That "Let the Groove Get It In" is so flames.

Joint kinda reminds me of "Lift Off" from Watch the Throne, i could hear Jay all over the 2nd half of that beat.

Album is dope. More than satisfied with it.

Really enjoyed this album. Always happy to get another modern album to throw in rotation. Just gave it a first listen it's gonna takes weeks to really soak it all in.

Timberlake and his label did an amazing job of creating hype for this.

I mean, everyone wants to hear this album -- it's gotten that big around my parts. Doesn't matter what genre you like, you can't escape the fact that this album is/was on the way.

That Budweiser Black Crown commercial has to be right there with the Fish McBites commercial for most played on TV right now lol. The Fallon week was a great idea, but only someone like JT could really pull that off. His singles are shutting down radio/clubs/parties. Hosting SNL. Two commercial spots during the Super Bowl.

 for 'em.

I can agree with parts of this. It won't be crossing boundaries because MJ broke them. There won't be the hysteria over videos because that medium is dying (on tv at least). I was born a year before Thriller but once I was able to comprehend music it was my favorite album. I used to play that ish three times in a row once I could reach the needle

In terms of sales & what not, it has a slight chance at outselling Thriller, but that's only because its easier to buy. But people are still buying thriller so :yeshrug: But I think once people digest it and the second half comes out, this might be JTs Thriller.

You make some strong points: It's not outselling Thriller. Because of the fact that yes, while it is easier to buy, it is also easier to get a bootleg copy of it. And plus you didn't have the type of diversified music selections that we have now. Back then it was basically Pop, Rock, R&B and Rap was just starting to enter the fray. Not to say that he won't do numbers, but with so many choices of music out now, people have tended to refine what they like and listen to. He might do 5-10 mil. in sales over the next few months.

JT is everywhere now promoting, but he runs the risk of over saturation and he's getting a major industry push right now, more than any other artist Ive seen in the past few years. I would like to see other artists get that type of support and push when promoting their albums, but there aren't to many other pop stars with that type of fanbase other than a Taylor Swift or Beyonce. But with JT he has more male listeners I would assume.

And I am a bit of a hater because I listen to his album and I still go back and think, "Ginuwine would've killed this track" or Chris Brown would've killed this one" or "Maxwell still has better material" or "Why did Timbo mess up the Chris Cornell album so bad." so I am jaded in a sense.

So do we agree that the beat switch on "Groove Get In" is the GOAT?

Name one that's better.

Oops...you cant.

:ohlawd:

I go from some samba shyt :stylin: to some :win: shyt.

shyt sounds like some next level disco shyt. Like if you filmed Soul Train in the year 3030.

It's GOAT imo....I really can't think of anything as sick.
