there's too much timbo on the bonus tracks for my liking (stay behind the boards Mr. Mosley !!!) but dress on is cool. I would've liked t.i. instead of tim's intervention on dress on I can almost hear him "put you dress on shawty" :heh::russ:

I don't completely disagree with what you are saying....except for the Diana Ross part, because she did display powerful vocals. I would say that JT's range is limited and his vocals are thin as compared to weak. If you listen to the legends like Marvin Gaye, Luther, Donnie Hathaway, these guys had range, Prince has range, he doesn't allow his vocals to play secondary to the beat or melody. JT's voice gets lost in the production, maybe I have some janky headphones, but this just seems like a Beats by Timbo comeback album more than anything.

And that's why Timbaland's beats worked so well with Aaliyah, because her voice was light and airy, like I said before he's beats don't mesh well with someone who has a strong singing voice, I could be wrong, but I think that's why he stopped fukking with Ginuwine.

I just think that a lot of people got swept up in hype of JT coming back and they almost fail to realize that if you were to take JT out and replace him with Robin Thicke, the album would virtually be the same.

I guess it's just a semantics thing with me. I feel some kinda way hearing "thin" about JTs vocals but I'm also a Stan. So it could just be me in my feelings. But I feel JT is suffering from Brian McKnight syndrome... He's so good at singing certain notes that he doesn't try to show that he can sing other ones. jT has a nice raspy lower register but he barely uses it anymore because his falsetto is so :blessed:. Same with MJ. He had an amazing range but as time went his songs tended to stay in the middle. (No, Im not saying JT is MJ status. Yet.)

The main difference is if Robin Thicke did this album the tour would be trash, which is a performance thing. So I guess you have a point there. But I guess part of my excitement for the album is knowing there is a tour coming with it and I can't wait to hear certain songs live.

Sigh. I get so annoyed by comments like this. People are so used to over singing that they don't appreciate crooners anymore. Back in the day you had two types of artists: crooners (Diana Ross, frank Sinatra) and blowers (Aretha). Blowers were respected for the power while crooners were respected for their tone quality and the sound. We all know Diana couldn't blow like Aretha but she's still considered a legend and that's why.

Very rarely can a singer both croon and blow. Whitney (RIP) could blow a note out the water while maintaining a pure and beautiful tone. So could Luther and Teddy P to a point. Miguel can do both and I give him respect. Dude is underrated like a motherfukker. Beyonce can do it when she feels like :yeshrug:

Aaliyah was a crooner. Had issues with hitting power notes but who cared when her high notes sounded so pretty and angelic. Every one isn't supposed to be a powerhouse singer to get respect.

I say this to say that JT is a crooner. And he knows how to arrange his vocals (with help from Timbo) to exploit the quiet lushness in his voice. He learned this after trying to force himself to be a power singer in his Nsync days and almost destroying his voice with that twang ala Bye Bye Bye. Gone was the first song where he used his voice properly and we all know how classic that shyt is.

The game is hard right now for crooners because people just don't respect that its a different form of talent that over singing. Hell, it's called oversinging for a reason.

And JTs vocals live in concert are :whew: While dancing. Alladis is to say that I don't consider JTs vocals weak, just different. His crooning on 20/20 is :whoo:
Positive rep and dap for this post.:youngsabo:
