No need to mince while rolling your neck and all I am gathering is the animated series had flaws but because the newer kiddie version didn't have the same flaws that makes it better. Better written and conceptualized show? That is just wild.. How old were you when the animated series was on? Sure it hasn't aged well but in its time it was right behind X-Men as the best show on the Fox kids Saturday block.
Ps amazing Spider-Man was the king of reusing animated scenes didn't take away from its entertainment. Spectacular loses points based on it's Nickelodeon like animation/tone alone. Bigger stakes? Better use of characters?
you don't get bigger than all the different spideys from each dimensions joining forces to save their respective worlds
No not even becaus of its flaws breh. Spectacular is a better show. It's better written, better executed and more layered. It had an incredible green goblin arc, had a running storyline throughout, used the mob in an awesome way, and made every character deep and layered including the bad guys. It's not wild to say it breh lol. Just like we're sitting here talking about how we can watch justice league or jlu or batman and say how dope they are even as adults, I can say the same thing about this show. I was the perfect age for spider man on fox, 8 years old when it came on and 13 when it went off. I was in college when spectacular started and even as an adult I could see it was a better show.
And by every character I mean damn near every character from the books: aside from the main villains, it also had most of his supporting cast from the books, including Gwen and Robbie Robertson, Liz Allen, sally Avril, kong, captain Stacy, mark Allen, silver sable, Betty brant, and more. It used the master planner arc, the gang wars arc, the venom arc, the lizard, and even did an episode where Peter got to meet the burglar who shot his uncle and made the relationship between the two of them extremely complicated and made peters choice in that episode tough and it impacted another character greatly.
I've got a better understanding of dope television than I did when I was a kid, obviously I should and tastes change as they should too so this show is just done better. No shortcuts no nothing. That's no diss to the 90s show at all but just because it was on when I was a kid and I grew up with it doesn't mean I gotta hold it on some pedestal my whole life. And spectacular didn't have a nickelodeon tone breh, not at all. Just because it may have looked like that from an animations standpoint, the writing itself was far from nickelodeon. And even with that animation, it worked for the show so I'm not going to dock points for it doing what worked for it. I don't know many nickelodeon shows that would use a midsummers night dream as an allegory for spider man being trapped in a prison..or would one character breaking the ankle of his own son on purpose..or touch on Harry's drug usage and addiction, or the amount of sexual innuendo
