Fuk social issues - you don't get props for upholding what previous courts have ruled. that's called being true to stare decisis, the underpinnings of our supreme court jurisprudence.

Look at his votes on economic/political questions (citizens united, voting rights, corporate power, bush v. gore). This is where the court has turned hard right.
well you should give him props because the 4 conservative justices didn't uphold previous rulings and people like them is who trump would pick to replace him.

and get ready for a harder turn because we've lived in positively liberal times compared to the shyt coming down the pike if kennedy is replaced by a trump appointee.

ginsberg shoulda retired

obama also should have put his pick in with that loophole he had in the last month of his presidency. i bet a republican would have done it :yeshrug:

RBG should have retired in 2013 right after Obama's 2nd inauguaration. Democrats had 55 seats in the Senate.

God damn sometimes I think Obama is so bytch.

Either that or he remained blinded to the influence of huge money donors on republicans to be in opposition not out of principle but out of deconstruction of any government actions.

Even his recent post on the healthcare debate he is still saying some of these republicans are friends of his. Like dude these dudes don't care how friendly they are with you. This isn't a game of hackey sack. They are like kamakazi pilots at this point. They have a mission and they are going to carry it out. Period.

2018 Senate Election Interactive Map

Look at the seats that are up for election in 2018

None of the red states look favorable for the democrats and given recent trends democrats may be in danger of losing a seat or two in Michigan and Wisconsin.
If progressives don't see the Supreme Court makeup, the current direction of healthcare, stopping entitlements for the wealthy thatbfurtger increase the wealth gap as viable reasons to get out in vote then there's no point in taking them seriously.

Yup. With regards to power, Kennedy has sided with the powerful not ordinary people.

So the ages of the justices:

Ginsburg - 84
Kennedy - 80
Breyer - 78
Thomas - 69
Alito - 67
Roberts - 62
Sotomayor - 62
Kagan - 57
Gorsuch - 49

Obviously the bottom 5 aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Thomas is young enough but it's well known he doesn't really like being a SCOTUS judge and could retire early. The top three are all up there in years and could retire or die within the next few years. They're all either seen as swing votes or liberal. Not good for the Dems.

That's not "moving to the right" in his case though, that's just being right. It's well documented he's moved left on social issues.
