It was cool but failed to blow my mind. There's movies out there that are classic and you know why as soon as you start watching (Heat, Godfather, Seven Samurai) bit this wasn't one for them.

the screenwriter paul schrader had a fuked up life, grew up very religious & never even saw a movie till he was an adult. everything he writes is ridiculously dark

Maybe cuz it was from a different time period. I saw it recently and enjoyed it for what it was. It's recognized for de niros acting and the dark themes of the movie. It's not the greatest but it was decent.

I watched the whole thing one night.... it was ok... I guess is was supposed to be psychologically dark... for it's time... but it was meh... I guess the only shocking thing was the part where we saw young jodie foster with dikk flying out her mouth...
