The shyt Jamie Foxx comes up with on the fly is some of the funniest stuff I've heard, this and the buffoonery on the old Foxxhole being proof.

But his written stand-up never seemed as funny, probably because he had Johnny Mack and Speedy write material for him.

The thing about comedians is some are funnier in certain aspects than others. I agree that Jamie's funniest stuff was on the Foxxhole off the fly shyt and his standup is weak compared to it. Mike Epps is the same way, he is hilarious to me in movies and interviews but his actual standup is wack as fukk to me.

Then you got a guy like Chris Rock whose standup is hilarious but many of his movies are ass. Then you got nikkas like Eddie Murphy who were actually funny in standup and movies prior to the 2000's of course but I'm trying to make a point.

I used to do standup comedy for a few years so I know what it's like. One or two times I had a Doug Williams moment minus Jamie Foxx where I wasn't getting many laughs but other nights I was killing it. This Dave Chappelle clip about Kramer sums up a comedian's career and the best part is it's all off the top.

Exactly, though it's probably not the best comparison, I've always likened it to Rappers who are great at freestyling and Battle raps but when it comes to putting out albums they don't hold up....

Jamie's standup is funny in small doses. Ive seen some material where he'll genuinely crack me up and some stuff that wasn't funny at all, but he ALWAYS killed it on Foxxhole.....

I compare standup to basketball. You got your scorers, rebounders, defenders, playmakers. Some are good at one or two things, but rarely (unless you a Lebron ass nikka) can you be great all four. How many comedians are equally funny on stage, in movies, on tv and on the fly? I honestly can't think of one other than Eddie Murphy (pre 2000)

Eddie Murphy and MAYYYYBEEEE Dave Chappelle (His filmography leaves alot to be desired but he was funny in Robin Hood and Half Baked)

are the only two i'd argue for (Richard Pryor goes without speaking)

Edit- Forgot the Gawd Martin Lawrence before he fell off

Can't cosign Chappelle's movie career because of lack of movies. Richard Pryor had a handful of funny movies in the 70's then cocaine and lackluster films in the 80's. Martin...ehhhh....I will cosign....but to me Martin's standup aged horribly. I was watching Runteldat and You So Crazy and a lot of his jokes are just recycled Richard Pryor topics with the same punchlines. Now I'm not saying some of his shyt wasn't funny cuz it was But I will admit he was at his standup best on Def Comedy Jam and thats because his best material was when he interacted with the audience. He was funny on the fly.
