Yeah that's where I thought and hoped it was going as well, especially after the great scene whereI think in part it's for sure marketing and appealing to a larger segment of viewers, ostensibly white, who wouldn't really be interested in an exclusive Pakistani romance, but include a bubbly, anxious white girl, and there you go. In this specific movie it's a major part of the story, but that isn't always the case. I halfway though the movie would go for a twist, and he would end up with the much more attractive and interesting Pakistani girl....She was well dressed, sharp, sophisticated, as opposed to just ironic and hipster type lol
Thanks for getting what i was trying to say. This is a big reason i dont fukk with aziz ansari (i posted about it in the master of none thread).Btw, I agree with the frustration of people thinking it's progressive to show people of color dating white men/women. It's actually more progressive to feature characters of color dating other characters of color, and leaving white people completely out of it. That's one of the reasons I couldn't get past even the first few episodes of the Mindy Kailing show, when I realized she would only be dating white men.
i walked out 30 mins in
It is. They show the real life parents and the white girl at the end
@rantanamo do you have a link for that article?

the woman playing the "X-files lady" he was being set up with was half black- half white,
I wanna see it, i use to listen to the him and his wife podcast.
What's interesting to me about this is it feels like interracial black white relationships in movies are about us being equal, whereas with these brown white love stories, it's more about the brown person being perceived as white.can't find the one I was reading on my phone, but here are some others
