Hey man this shyt was based of a true story most of that shyt happened to what solomon described in his book. I don't think it was suppose to showcase how superior white people were like slavery is something you can't sugar coat shyt was fukked up and probably even worse than what you saw in the movie. I wish more black brothers watched this movie and instead of it opressing you make it empower you to achieve that black excellence sure that movie made me feel some type of way but then compared it to see how divided we are we like to kill each other, steal from each other, observe why light skin is better than dark skin and in slavery it didn't matter what shade you were if you had a tiny bit of nikka you were working in them fields. This movie made me look at it in a sense that I can't let solomon's or my ancestors name die in vain today we have our freedom and as nikkaz we shyt on each other more than any other race and we can say it's the white man's fault for it but at the end of the day this is exactly what the white man wants us to do beause there scared of tha black unity and us coming together which is what we need more of.

This is a lie tho. Not everyone worked in the fields. :bryan:

These films are needed to dispel the false notions American blacks have about history.

I went to see this flick and I was offended that me and my 3 friends were the only black people there...and the movie was sold out.

Guess white people get off on these flicks.

use your brain and ask yourself why would they do that...then ask yourself what if that movie is historically wrong and propaganda piece

They did it because they are kind and generous. Goldman Sachs is funding charter schools right now.

I haven't seen it but :patrice:

There needs to be another Djano except this time make the main character devilishly ingenious and have him murder the slavemasters in increasingly brutal ways. Let irony kill the c00n.

Where did you go to see the movie? Was it an arthouse theater?

I've seen Spike Lee flicks in arthouse theaters that were 90-95% white.

Arthouse theater are almost always dominated by white folks. I saw Fruitvale first night in Olde City (Downtown Philadelphia) and it was packed with about 95% whites. It was nothing but old white people and hipsters.

Another time I saw Beasts of the Southern Wild at the arthouse theater near my place and it was the same kind of audience.

I'm sure your posts in this thread are far more entertaining to racist cacs than this movie could ever be.

I am very grown actually. Now, how many times Hollywodd gonna fund those same slavery movies ? Passion of Christ was all factual but the Jews didn't allow another to come out and blackmailed Gibson right ? Has there ever been a mainstream movie about the Holocaust ?

I be ready to slap people that give me "that look" when I say I have no intentions of seeing films like this. I go to the movies to see fantasy, sci fi, maybe a cop flick & the occasional comedy. I want to enjoy myself, not be depressed. when I was in school, they gave us an advanced screening of rosewood. never again. i'll catch that shyt on cable, MAYBE.

I want to be happy during my $12 purchase, not sad & miserable.

I feel ya bruh. I'm the same way.

BTW, this thread is good. Mad daps to many people in here spitting some reality rap.

I saw the original when I was 5th grade at school. So had no interest in seeing this remake.

Why the fukk would a black person want to watch a movie on slavery? I'm with OP. Some of the recent black movies with "buzz" are The Help, The Butler, Django, and now this 12 Years a Slave shyt. Man, fukk that.

We need to educate ourselves on our own history, using our own resources. So all that historical relevance talk is bullshyt. Movies are made for entertainment purposes. We can educate ourselves about slavery. And when has Hollywood not distorted the truth anyway?

What the fukk do I look like supporting the white establishment continually making movies depicting how they shytted on us? I don't care that the director is black. fukk that nikka too for making a fukking slave movie, while some fat ass white execs make more money than you do off that shyt.

Where are the black action heroes or super heroes (They had Hancock simping a white bytch :dahell:) Where are the positive black family shows like The Cosby's at? Where are the movies where black people enslave white people, beat them, rape them, get rich off them, and nothing happens? Now there's a movie I would go see.

fukk supporting my movies highlighting the harrowing plight of my people funded by the same people that enslaved us in the first place. I'll gladly go support something that shows us in a positive light. Muthafukkas still trying to condition us and shyt. We gotta choose between this type shyt and Tyler Perry movies. Naw, fukk that

I feel this 100%. The amount of black movies out there are slim and if I have to choose between watching another slave movie and another stereotypical Tyler Perry movie, I'd rather just read a book. Not that many options out there. And TV..my family sits around and watches Modern Family and other white entertainment where black people are seldom seen...whereas 20 years ago we were watching Family Matters, Fresh Prince, and The Cosby show...what the f*ck happened?

I go to movies to be entertained not to have my mood ruined...and what's in this film that I don't already know about slavery? That I already learned about in my own spare time (cause I refused to take a college course on African studies and have pay to have some white person teach me about MY own history). Everyone's different, and some of you saying that people should force themselves to watch this are entirely missing the point.

I agree with many people here...don't be afraid of your own history but at the same time you can't force people to watch something they don't care to.
