Yea I had completely forgot the story of Othello so that’s probably what has me so hype. It’s a very modern plot

Just the plot:

Othello (Denzel) is high ranking military and he’s messing with a general/politican’s daughter and bc he’s black it’s controversial and he has haters. Iago (Gyllenhal) is under Othello and hates being under a black man so he plots to somehow bring Othello down.

Full story & ending:

The entire play is basically Iago planting seeds to Othello that his girl is fukking another guy. Iago wants to force Othello to crash out. Othello doesn’t know Iago hates him, so they have a tight relationship. Eventually Othello’s girl drops a handkerchief that Othello had given her. Iago finds it and plants it on another man, Michael Cassio, as his ‘proof’ of infidelity. Othello finds out about the handkerchief and, with Iago in his ear, slowly loses his mind. (This is where Denzel transitions on some next level shyt to a Frank Lucas x Flight x Training Day mashup) :ahh: At one point he backhands her and the whole audience :lupe:

All along Iago had one of his homies helping out with his plan. Iago plans to kill Michael Cassio and frame his homie for it, to get rid of all traces of his fukkery. Iago stages this robbery, kills his homie, but Michael Cassio is only wounded.

Cut back to Othello. He confronts his girl again in their bed, and strangles her to death in dramatic fashion. Iago’s wife rushes in ‘what have you done’. Othello explains everything and the handkerchief. Iago’s wife explains that she was the one who found it and Iago was lying to him. Everyone converges at the scene. Iago confronts his wife and kills her by slashing her throat. Michael Cassio appears and co-signs Iago’s wife. Realizing he had been played by Iago, Othello slashes his own neck and kills himself, then falls dead next to his dead girl

Gyllenhall steals the show early being connnviing and with comic relief. Then Denzel pulls an Olympics Curry and kills it at the end. His arch from wildly in love to heartbreak to enraged with jealousy to remorse was :mjcry:
