Earl Boykins did well for himself, he wasn’t a super athlete

"While he is the smallest player in the NBA, Boykins has an explosive quickness that allows him to change the speed of the game on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.... Boykins is without question the strongest pound-for-pound player on the Wizards as he at one time was able to bench press almost two and a half times his body weight, maxing out at 315 pounds, and now does 500 push-ups everyday."

"Earlier in my career, the biggest misconception was that my career was going to be based on speed," he said. "I think I had a lot of people fooled for a long time. They just used me as a guy who was faster than everyone. Now I think the longer that I've played, more and more people are starting to appreciate the way I play the game. People see it, but they don't want to believe it. I've played the same way everywhere I've been."

Fastest guy on the court
Strongest guy on the court pound-for-pound
Just 5'6" and dunking

That's an elite athlete.

He's an elite athlete AND he had incredible bball IQ and work ethic which allowed him to consistently get his shot off despite his small size. I used to love watching him play with the Nuggets and was always rooting for him to become a full-time starter which he seemed just on the verge of doing but couldn't break through.
