Today is Julia Roberts birthday.
55 years ago MLK and Coretta Scott King paid for her parents hospital bill after she was born.

Julia Roberts revealed that the late Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, paid the hospital bill for her birth when her parents couldn’t afford it.

While in conversation with Gayle King, the “Erin Brockovich” star explained that her parents befriended the Kings while living in Atlanta and running a theater school.

One day Coretta called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids,” Roberts said, referring to segregation in the 1960s.

“My mom was like, ‘Sure, come on over,’ and so they all just became friends, and they helped us out of a jam.”

It previously has been reported that a Ku Klux Klan member blew up a car outside one of Betty and Walter Roberts’ plays in response to King Jr’s daughter Yolanda being cast in a role where she had to kiss a white actor.

The famed journalist called Roberts’ parents’ decision “extraordinary” because people didn’t see “little black children interacting with little white kids in acting school” at the time.

The “Ticket to Paradise” star celebrated her 55th birthday Friday by sharing a selfie of herself sipping a mug of coffee and pink-and-gold balloons.

Everyone has a MLK story just like everyone has a 2Pac story.

“My grandfather marched with Dr. King and the Freedom Riders. But for whatever reason he didn’t get the shít beat out of him like they did.” :troll:

“Dr. King convinced me to get off heroin and lead the Lakers to their first title win over the Celtics” :myman:

“Dr. King paid for my birth bill because my dad was late cashing his check from the steel mill” :beli:

Her parents were friends with MLK and Coretta. Seems pretty straight forward. Cool story.

That's still literally just her telling the story. You're posting the video version of the article.

Both Mr. & Mrs. King are deceased, and there was no quote from anyone who knows them well who can verify that this actually happened. Theres no paperwork showing who paid, theres no quote from staff working at the hospital, nothing from anyone related to the king family. All we have is her word that it happened and surprise that the interviewer knew that. Keep in mind that this is literally an award winning actress. Shes paid millions of dollars a year to make you believe that she's expressing genuine emotions.

If I say that I met Michael Jackson and Tupac while I was in LA in 1994, nobody can verify if that actually happened if both of them are gone. A journalist who would be investigating would find some evidence that this really happened, otherwise it's just me using 2 famous figures for clout.

Responsible journalism means finding records, quotes, etc. To back something up and not just taking someone's word for it.

Exactly.

Only people around from that day are the other babies in that hospital because 100% of the people who worked there are gone.

:gucci:WELL IM SURE YOU
CAN FIND OUT IF THE ROBERTS
HAD DR KINGS DAUGHTER IN
ONE OF THEIR PLAYS AND
IF A CAR WAS BLOWN UP.

THATS FAR MORE INTERESTING
THAN PAYING A HOSPITAL BILL.

Meh. Farthest mention I can find of it was 2006, when Coretta died. Unless you're going to outright say King's children didn't go to the school Roberts' parents ran and show proof, or any pushback from King's kids, I really see no point in doubting this.

Here's Yolanda King discussing going to the school and being taught by Roberts' dad:
