Phillis Wheatley (May 8, 1753 – December 5, 1784) was both the second publishedAfrican-Americanpoet and first published African-American woman.

George Washington wrote a letter to her and admired her work.

That's one example.

In Josephine Baker's defense she had limited options and what she did was pretty excellent for the time. Didn't I say she was a spy for the French during WWII too? If that's not pretty damn good..
