On one hand this isn't unique to black people - when something hits, others repackage it in order to capitalize. You see it in film and TV all the time. On the other hand it's depressing that this is the wave we get. We've moved beyond straight up historical retellings of slavery or civil rights and gone straight into psychological suspense and horror shows/films about slavery or civil rights. It's like someone saw Lovecraft Country and said "lets do that, without the weird shyt."

Worse part is that the trailer is actually interesting at first....and then it just goes off the fukking rails. Those first few seconds of the family moving in reminded me of something I've always wanted to see: a Mad Men type show, focused on black people. Sure there would be racism and oppression, but the focus on the show would be the characters, who they are as people, their relationships, their successes and failures etc. But of course that type of prestige show isn't going to drive twitter crazy. Whereas this show...you can already imagine the ridiculous tweets and hot takes that will be all over twitter.

Twitter is not real life. Until these execs realize that, we're never going to get truly great black shows...

Even our shows were on point....what happened :mjcry:
This in tweet below start to happen Hollywood start get these Cultural Mulatto who are mainly trying to make entertainment for white people and other Cultural Mulatto like themselves..
Obama: Cultural Mulatto | HuffPost
the term “cultural mulatto,” to describe people like myself who, because of how we were raised, can easily navigate both the white world and the black. a cultural mulatto, educated by a multi-racial mix of cultures, can also navigate easily in the white world. And it is by and large this rapidly growing group of cultural mulattoes that fuels the NBA. We no longer need to deny or suppress any part of our complicated and sometimes contradictory cultural baggage to please either white people or black.Today’s cultural mulattoes echo those “tragic mulattoes” critic Sterling Brown wrote about in the Thirties only when they too forget they are wholly black. Most self-deluding cultural mulattoes desperately fantasize themselves the children of William F. Buckley. However a minority affect instead a “superblackness” and try to dream themselves back to the ghetto. Either way they are letting other people define their identity. Today, there are enough young blacks torn between the two worlds that we can finally go out and create our own. The New Black Aesthetic says you just have to be natural, you don’t necessarily have to wear one. [the “natural” was a hairstyle in the Sixties]

Koalabama and the Cosmos
I want to see more black independent projects. When cacs are giving you money they either want black misery porn or some way to shoehorn a white hero into the story. Theyre uncomfortable around seeing stories of black people getting shyt done without white people involved.

There was a collection of Black Afrofuturistic flicks up on Criterion. They put out a trailer and holy hell CACs was mad AF:wow:

Heaven's forbid we can create shyt that goes beyond the narrative of being lower than fukking mutants:francis:

Trailer gives vibes of repackaged content. Like Get Out, Us and Lovecraft Country all rolled into one.

It’s ok to make a series of nikkas exploring space or fighting dragons. Not everything has to be like this
