Yes the fukk they can have it both ways lol. This is like saying "you can't have Fidelity and Charles Schwab running commercials all day and not expect people to do insider trading". The Chicago Black Sox happened over 100 years ago and gambling was more prevalent in society back then... this isn't a new problem.

"The players in the game don't get to bet on the game" is a very simple and basic rule that has been in effect for hundreds of years. Maybe thousands...
It’s simple but this is the first generation being raised in this “fantasy parlay bet in 5 seconds” generation. This is the tip of an iceberg.

They can have it both ways just like they can also live with the consequences of jeopardizing the integrity of the game for gambling revenue. :yeshrug:

You have players literally bombarded with gambling ads courtside, in the locker room, in the training room, in the cafeteria, on tv and everywhere else. The same players are being tweeted and DM’d all day everyday about parlays.

You think these dudes don’t know what’s going on? I’m sure there have been dozens of games and hundreds of bets this season compromised by guys looking at parlays

If anything it shows how things surface now that it’s legal and it’s all tracked, and audited. It ain’t in the shadows and any shady shyt you will be outed. Helps integrity wise

Porter is 24 years old, he's a youngin. I wouldn't rule out he was influence by the constant marketing and promoting of Gambling by the NBA and other Sports leagues and channels. Why are Sports Leagues and ESPN advertising Gambling so hard. There are ads to gamble everywhere. If it's so bad and wrong, why promote it so much? When I grew up they didn't advertise this stuff. Now you got Athletes like Tom Brady promoting it. Every time I saw an NFL game last year, there was a Gambling advertisement. Same with the NBA. The fact is they saw a chance to make more money and this and the Ohtani situation is just the beginning of the consequences of normalizing it. I have a feeling lower-tier players like Porter will take the risk.
:mjlol:

That’s even worse than saying that we should give a pass to all 20 something murderers due to TV and music. At least in that case they actually show murder.

Nobody shows you how gamble on your own team or pass insider information on your team to your friends. That’s obviously why it’s such a harsh penalty. If he was just stupid gambling on other teams it’d probably be more lenient

Exactly 💯

He would have got 1 season or 25-50 games if he bet on other squads dolo. Could have chalked it up to a simple lapse in judgment.

Removing yourself from games and tipping off a bettor is no coming back territory

not if the younger players show up addicted to gambling

its like weed, once the general public uses it frequently, you cant really hold the players accountable

I think a lot of guys do it. You know how easy it would be to get the under on something like 4 assists (for example)? It’s easy money
Rebounds. That’s what he and others started with. Ballooned from there. There’s several more games than the couple woj/the nba specifically called out.
