Jones elaborates to MMA Fighting:

"I wanna see [Gustafsson] fight a top contender. Seems like these guys are not really having the toughest time to get to the belt. Teixeira goes from Bader to a championship fight. Gustafsson went from Shogun to a championship fight. I feel like they save all the dogs for me and they just give the toughest guys the easiest match-ups to get to a title shot. Let's see some of these top contenders fight each other."

When news broke that Gustafsson would be fighting Nogueira:

"I was like 'Really? You want him to have the rematch that bad?' No disrespect to Nogueira, but let's see Gustafsson versus Cormier. It makes so much sense. Me, Cormier, Gustafsson and Teixeira, the top four guys in the division. Let's put us all in a little round-robin pool and see who is the toughest out of us four. Why throw Little Nog into the picture? But whatever, I'm gonna fight the toughest one anyway."

not that I hold it against him but Vera, Matyushenko and Bader weren't exactly the roughest path to a title match either

he's not wrong in his line of thinking of having the contenders fight but he just didn't need to verbalize it. Dude just likes to talk, he wants to box a Klitschko, wants a super fight with a Cain who would likely maul him but hey if u have skills and can make people wanna see you lose then thats box office word to Floyd Mayweather

Jones is mad the contenders don't beat the s-hit out of each other so he can pick the scraps to keep his belt, phuck that. The champ fights whoever they put in front of him.

Yeah, to me this sounds like Jones is running scared of Gus. Jones declined the rematch, likely because he thought that Gus would beat him (again).

I really don't think that any fighters should be able to choose who they fight. They just shouldn't have the option. If you want to be champ, you can't be ducking people.

He's shook. Most of the dudes he's going up against have had a much tougher road than he's had.

i wouldn't mind an immediate rematch since the fight was so close
but he is right none of the contenders have fought each other at all
There is a thin line in between being right and being a bytch......

Ducking or finding reasons to avoid your most legit fight is questionable as fukk.....

I think he lost that fight, and I want to see the rematch

UFC has no type of linear path to the title, shyt is like WWF the way they make matches

So is Jones hiding behind his title now..............

This argument cut both ways like a two dsword, like you said you flet he lost as I did, any true fighter whats to quiet that noise immediately, not hoping that fighter faces other threats than lose so that fight wont be marketable anymore, bytchassdess like this is killing the UFC..................

Jones punk ass want to duck, Dana needs to make him fight Hendo or Machida, nobody else.....................

Let's look at both Gus and Jones' fights up to the title.

Jones - Matt Hamil (which he lost to DQ), Brandon Vera, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ryan Bader, and Shogun for the title.

Gus - Cyrille Diabaté, James Te Huna (who is looking scary as hell), Matt Hamil, Vladimir Matyushenko, Thiago Silva, Shogun and Jones for the title.

How can he be saying that Gus gets the easy fights when they have almost the exact same run for the belt? Thiago Silva is arguably a harder opponent than Ryan Bader, and I'd much rather face Brandon Vera over James Te Huna.

Gus is fighting Jimi Manuwa next. Should it be a higher ranked guy? Maybe. I don't even know who this guy is. But I don't think Jones can complain about the path to the belt.

Jones got his title shot because he stepped in because of an injury and even then he wasn't the first replacement option. I think his comments have more to do with taking a jab at the UFC than anything to do with Gus. Dana been talking real slick lately about a lot of his fighters recently and it's about time some of them hit back. I mean Dana used to always tout how UFC wasn't like boxing and that guys wouldn't be shielded to protect their status and that true contenders would face each other. It's clear UFC is now trying to protect certain match ups they want to make in the future as they see PPV sales dwindle and they continuously fail to produce any new marketable stars.
