I feel like truly funny or scary is harder to pull off than dramatic. No reason classic comedies or horror movies shouldn’t get oscars when it’s harder to pull of a great one than it is a great drama.
I view Comedy as a different art form of acting than Drama. Drama is all about becoming the Character in the simplest form. Comedy is all about getting the joke across with factors such as timing, and being able to have the audience get the joke without explaining the joke.
This video helps explain in a way why Ghostbusters 2016 bombed in it's Comedy. After watching so many comedies it starts to sink in that if you really want to be funny, there is a ton of smarts behind it; its not like stand-up (which is a different medium of Comedy) where its a punchline, but rather in a movie, its a very clever and smart scene to make people laugh.
