Jon Jones Gets Wild $50 Million Fight Offer from PFL to Fight Francis Ngannou, But is it Real?

Thu, Mar 27, 2025

A fight between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former UFC heavyweight champion and current PFL heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has captivated the MMA world since Jones first moved up to the division from light heavyweight. Some argue that Jones's multifaceted skill set, including his superior grappling and varied striking approach, would allow him to neutralize Ngannou. On the other hand, others believe that Ngannou's unparalleled knockout power presents a significant threat, capable of ending the fight with a single, well-placed strike.

In a move that has reignited the prospect of this long-anticipated heavyweight clash, PFL founder Donn Davis has extended a $50 million offer to Jones to face Francis Ngannou.

How do these two matchup? What are each other's strengths and weaknesses?

Jon is the most skillful fighter. Dane once called him the perfect soldier.

Francis has unbelievable strength, which compensates for his lack of technique. But he’s a quick learner.

Both have a high fight IQ.

Francis fought against Tyson Fury and basically won that fight. He knocked down Tyson. In that fight he was the people’s champ. The arbiter count was extremely slow. Almost 24 seconds for 10 counts.

Jones is shooting for his life. He is not risking standing with Ngannou. Doesn’t matter. Jones ducked him when they were both in the company. Jones is ducking the current interim champion going on almost two years now. He’s not risking his legacy no matter what at this stage of his career. He would rather go out as a coward than have nightmares for life if he gets starched. Gotta remember Jones is a fukking psychopath

Tom has many holes in his fighting. Most recognizable is his cauliflower ears. There’s not a lot of footage of him, but the bit we’ve got explains a lot. Could he have worked on it, perhaps. But none of the fighters he faced were on Jon’s level. Jon takes people to places they’ve never been.

At the time my money was on Francis as well. However, Jon is now a heavyweight, meaning he can absorb more and hit harder himself as well. Not saying he can stand with Francis. Tom apparently hits hard as well, unexpected. But not as hard as Francis.

there hasn't been a single instance where a guy with those kinds of holes in his game has ever threatened jones
True, but Francis is a quick learner as well. In the second fight against Stipe that was made clear, when he out grappled Stipe in the mouth-spin. Not that he will be a better grappler than Jon, but he should not be underestimated either.

You're talking quick learning against an all-time GOAT who's dismantled the best across multiple generations of fighters. I'm not some stan either. Jones is objectively a horrible person.

You have to actively talk yourself into thinking Francis - who has taken significant damage now btw - is going to be the guy to figure out Jones.

True, but Francis is molded different. He has strength Jon has not dealt with yet, although he spars with heavyweights.

I think Francis would be Jons toughest fight ever by far. I would never bet against the GOAT but it would be a challenge for him to beat Francis.

This fight technically should be able to happen, Dana is just the promoter and they're independent contractors. Who cares if the UFC doesn't want to cross promote if the fighters want it? I thought by now the fighters would have started a union or got the Ali act to MMA but we seem as far away from both being a reality as ever.
