Jon Jones
20 - 1

VS.

Daniel Cormier
15 - 0

Highlights:

The Champion

The Challenger

My Prediction:

I predict that Jon Jones is going to try to keep this fight standing because of Cormier's reputation of being brutal on the ground. If Jon can keep the fight off the ground, he will punish Cormier with his superior striking ability.
If Cormier gets a clean take down on Jon, we might be looking at the next champion :lupe:
I believe that since Jon also has a wrestling background he would be tempted to try to out wrestle Cormier but it wouldn't be smart to fight someone in a style they are also comfortable with.
My prediction is definitely Jon winning by either decision or TKO from strikes.

is this fight even happening anytime soon

most mma fighters I've talked to say Cormier is gonna win easily, but I can't help but feel they have some kind of resent towards jones
UFC 182 is happening January 3rd and it should be the biggest upcoming UFC event.
The way time is flying.. January will be here in no time

Whether the fight is fought mostly on the ground or not, I predict a Jon Jones victory. Maybe even an easy one. This guy Comier does not match up well against JJ in any facet.

He is the far lesser striker.
He is smaller in stature.
Jon Jones is not only known for his strength as Comier is, but for his wrestling skill level and background, as Comier is. I cannot see JJ being outworked on the ground by this guy.
Jones is quicker, as strong or stronger, and as skilled on the ground or more skilled, than Daniel Comier.

Smaller as far as height, but dude is pretty big himself even though shorter. If he finds a way inside or if Jones tries to wrestle him, Cormier could get the upset. A lower center of gravity could be an advantage if he gets past the reach. :sas1:

Although I slightly favor Jones, this is a tough fight for both individuals. Cormier has better wrestling, is stronger and has more power in his strikes. On the other hand, the champ is a better striker and does a very good job of utilizing his reach (probably the best in MMA). Jones holds a 12+ inch reach advantage over Cormier. It will be interesting to see how effectively and often Cormier can get on the inside. And how will Jon react and work off his back, because Cormier will very likely take him down.

I'm miffed at how JJ's wrestling prowess, and raw strength, is being so overlooked right now. :mindblown:

He is an accomplished wrestler. He is freakishly strong which has been noted in many a fight- but most popularly the fight vs Quentin Rampage Jaquelyn.
And while not being the most accomplished wrestler, QRJ is still no weakling.
Yet, JJ manhandled him in regards to strength/grappling, throughout the entire match.

Even more telling is how he did the same to Rashad Evans who is nothing short of an absolute brute, known for his extremely polished wrestling background.
And he was no match for JJ strengthwise or wrestling. Jones rag-dolled him all around the octagon, tossing him to and fro with miniscule effort.

I know you favor Jones for the win, but I just find it a little surprising Jones isn't being given more credit for his strength and wrestling.

I suspect it's due to Comier's reputation he's built thus far, but I see right throught all of that in regards to this particular fight.

JBJ is an entirely different animal than Comier has ever faced.

don't know how its going to end, but that is certainly not going to happen

I thought the same thing when I first read that, but then entertained the possibility due to Comier being so much shorter.

It is not far reaching to have a scenario where Jones and Comier are standing up, Comier's back pinned against the cage (yes, he's strong enough and skilled enough to do that to Comier) and in the midst of the chopping elbows and stuffing Comier's escape attempts, loop that arm around the neck.. it could happen.
