LAS VEGAS – UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones announced Tuesday that he has entered a drug treatment facility.

The announcement came just days after Jones defeated Daniel Cormier on Saturday in the main event of UFC 182 at the MGM Grand Garden in a five-round decision that left many considering him as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all-time.

But in a random drug test given to him on Dec. 4 by the Nevada Athletic Commission, Jones tested positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite in cocaine.

The Nevada commission follows the World Anti-Doping Agency code and benzoylecgonine is not banned out-of-competition. As a result, the commission was unable to penalize Jones or prevent him from fighting despite knowing of the positive test.

It conducted a follow-up test later in December that Jones passed. Yahoo Sports was unable to get the exact date of the second test that Jones passed.

Jones released a statement to Yahoo Sports through his attorney acknowledging his problem.

"With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy."
The UFC had no immediate comment.

Francisco Aguilar, the commission chairman, had little to say. He said the commission is going to discuss out-of-competition drug tests at its next meeting and whether to break from the WADA code in similar situations.

"I am pleased that Mister Jones is addressing this issue and seeking help for his problem," Aguilar said.

The test given to Jones was analyzed for anabolic agents, peptide hormones, growth factors and related substances, beta-2 agonists, hormone and metabolic modulators, diuretics and other masking agents, stimulants, narcotics, canabinoids and glucocorticosteroids.

ill absolutely buy 1 in 4 or 5 who actually tried it once. that means 3 quarters or more of the population havent even experimented with it once, let alone use it semi regularly. its hardly an everyday, normal activity

Normal is too strong of a word.....However, its not normal to ingest something 5 times a week that reeks havoc on your liver, kidneys, heart, brain, stomach, and G.I. tract.....like alcohol does.....

Normal behavior is prescribed to us...Its not something that we've defined on our own accord....:manny:

But you right....most people who do or try coke only do it for an extremely short term basis.......It doesn't stick with most people long term.

that's not necessarily true. i mean, he could be a legit cokehead but the rehab could just as easily be for PR purposes more than him having a real problem with it.

I don't think anyone was suggesting drinking alcohol 5 times a week as being normal. Cocaine is highly addictive and it's pretty difficult for most people to engage in casual use of it, without becoming addicted.

Bones knew he was going to be randomly tested in December and still couldn't wait a few weeks to casually use the cocaine?

And Bones already admitted he had a problem by checking himself in, you can argue that it's a PR campaign, but unless you can get inside his heads and read his thoughts, you're just going to have to accept that his action of checking himself into rehab means HE HAS A PROBLEM.

I think fans of the sports are right in questioning whether or not Bones used cocaine a few minutes before the fight. Cocaine can arguably help numb you to pain...which may have actually help his performance not hinder it....unlike alcohol. He was eating them uppercuts like dollar menu cheeseburgers.

coke is straight. Ive done it a few times, one in Vegas, second time in Houston. Both times I was heavily pressured by females, it seems to be a normal thing to do on some party scenes. Ironically, both nights spiraled WAY out of control. Ended up drinking a stupid amount. I could see it being easy to get caught up in if you are constantly partying.
