John Williams should be forever recognized as the undisputed goat of soundtracks

His music is great but in comparison to John Williams even great is low key trash. and I actually love zimmer's work too, but you doing him a disservice by trying to compare him to John Williams. Williams score are legit timeless masterpieces alot of times. Zimmer is simply not on this level. That's why i bring up people like Mozart and Beethoven instead.

Yes, John Williams’ music is attached to more iconic movies & Nostalgia gives John Williams more favor in comparison to other composers but to say Hans Zimmer is not comparable musically is wild. Hans Zimmer is a lot more experimental which I appreciate more than sticking with a traditional classical sound :yeshrug:

Zimmer's genius is in his use of orchestral textures and sound design....

These movies are iconic in part because of the strength of his scores. Nothing generationallly memorable about any of Zimmer's work. it's just good.
Nobody is gonna make an appreciation thread about one of his songs 30 to 40 years after it was released. There truly is not a favorable comparison here.
Zimmer is not on this level.

How memorable and catchy a composition is not an useful measurement on how great a composer is.

We all remember the Macarena decades later but that’s not a testament to how great the artist was

Hans Zimmer is great. We could even call him legendary, however he has not created as many memorial soundtracks as John Williams. That's why we hold him above Hans Zimmer. Also the timing is crucial. John Williams was there during our childhood cranking out classics. Not just for my Generation X with Star Wars and Indiana Jones but even for Millenials with Harry Potter.

I didn't make this post to shyt on Hans though I have much respect for him, he's one of my favorites along with Harry-Gregson Williams.

Look....Hans made this:

:whew:

His legacy is cemented in history with that joint alone. :ohlawd:

Since this is turning into a Williams vs Zimmer thread, I see that they do two different things.

Williams is great, but I've always felt that he composes to basically just get his shyt off. The music is good, and I've found that I associate the songs with the movies more because I really liked those movies. Doesn't make the music any worse, though.

Zimmer, at least from my view, makes music that's intended to be played with the scenes he's scoring, since they enhance the film. Inception and The Dark Knight for example, are great movies, but part of the sense of tension and dread comes from the score that plays with the scenes. The opening bank robbery and penthouse robbery of The Dark Knight aren't anywhere near as intense without that droning, building noise played as part of the score, for example.

But to each their own. That's the beauty of music.
