that's where we differ. if trump bragged about using loopholes and then said those loopholes shouldn't exist i wouldn't find that hypocritical. he would basically be saying, close it so i don't use it. john oliver isn't criticizing certain tax breaks and then lobbying FOR those tax breaks. he's using it as long as they allow them. he certainly wouldn't be crying publicly if those tax breaks went away.I agree and like I said in OP, I would 100% do the same thing. I will add that during the election campaign, a lot of people took issue with Trump openly admitting to exploiting loopholes like this and lobbying politicians for more favorable tax breaks for the rich. Oliver has consistently called out that kind of behavior so I view it as a bit hypocritical on his part for not practicing what he preaches.
this would be like in football where a coach is complaining in the offseason about how the defenders are allowed to grab and then someone creating a video of his defenders grabbing and impeding the opposition. that wouldn't have anything to do with his argument. asking for the rules to be changed doesn't mean you have to do the things you're arguing for BEFORE the rules are changed. that's ridiculous.
