See why I said I hadn't watch a full show since the 40th anniversary? This generation of SNL is terrible. Even if the host is good, the quality of the skits is bad.
And weekend update needs new hosts ASAP.

Rock's first two SNL appearrances got ratings and were highly praised. I've never heard Cena be praised in anything that's not WWE hype or Make a Wish connected.Generally speaking I saw no negativity about him on twitter tonight but I didnt see high praise either and this is the first review

Its gonna be tough for him man, he's as generic as his character so if he wants to crossover he's gonna have to shed even more than Trainwreck (which wasnt even shedding as much as it was parodying himself). He's not Rock in that way where he came up in a era where you can balance mainstream accessibality and charisma with being risky. Even now the PG Rock of the last five years is different than early Rock which is why I liked his early gigs post WWE in the mid 2000s like Southland Tales for at least being interesting.
I know its only SNL but from a crossover standpoint it seen as a measuring point and hes gonna do comedies with writers from that show so him kinda striking out at worse and not knocking out the park at best is gonna indicate a few things.
Rock's first SNL performance might not have aged well to some here but at the time it was a big hit with critics and viewers and launched him to crossover fully. Not sure tonight did that.
We may see more Cena in the next few years than you think on WWE and perhaps settle in a Jericho/Austin/Piper lane than a Rock lane which isnt too bad either

I must say that was an awful episode. Skits really weren't funny.
But I thought Cena himself was pretty great. Looked very comfortable, loved his energy. And dare I say he's a pretty good actor. He's a natural performer.
I really think he could have a career in Hollywood.
