I had this very same thing happen to me. I didn't kick the dog because I knew if iI didnt kick it hard enough it would bite my foot and if I DID kick it hard enough it would die. It had ran out a neighbors house when he opened it for mail so I just waited but that mf was legit trying to bite me.
I love dogs to death but theres no way this was an unprovoked encounter. Im certain the dog ran up on dude jogging minding his business. Little dogs like to be aggressive as hell and since it was off the leash and likely chased dude down, by the time he paid attention to it, the dog was already in his personal space and likely snapping at him. You run on a trail/road, the dog park is always centrally based. If you don't even have control of your dog to be able to call him back from chasing someone then why in the fukk would I believe you in saying your dog showed no aggression that small dogs typically do?

I had to kick multiple dogs, multiple times when I was running once. It was 3 Chihuahuas. I ran past a house and they came running out to attack me. I felt teeth on my ankle. It was at the end of my run so I didn't want to try to out run them. Plus I refused to have that visual of me running for my life being chased by chihuahuas 
I kicked 2 just to get them off me and then maybe I could finish. Then the 3rd, ran up and got kicked. The first one came back and I upped the force of the kick and knocked it back a few feet. They were like
she not playing and back up but still barking. I was like 
yea get off me. I guess they called their people because 2 more came out the house like

Luckly the owner cameout with the stank face like I was the crazy one. I would have killed or injured them all with no regrets. But I was being attacked.

Them little dogs are the main ones that try and run up on you. Keep your raggedy ass dog on a leash and this wouldnt happen.

I still have a scar on my left knee from a stray dog bumping me , scraping the ground while I was trying to run away from it 21 YEARS AGO. I haven't taken any shyt from dogs running up on me since while I'm running on the trail.
