see this is where I disagree; you can't call somebody trash who has a resume of hits.

And Swizz did usher in a new sound for NY ; despite how people feel about it.

RR was a movement in hip-hop.

I recently watched a YT of Lord Finesse talking about how he's updating the boom bap sound and it was dope AF.

If you asked the average fan who is Lord Finesse and who is Swizz Beatz who would be more identified by the masses by name?

This circles back to my OG point; its a music snob theme.

Same thing with rock n roll. Nobody in the Ramones was Eddie Van Halen with it.......but guess what......the Ramones brand is stamped. Nobody in the Ramones could compete talent wise to someone like Eddie Van Halen; but they're legends and will remain so.

Gordon Ramsey would probably be disgusted with burger king's "The Whopper" ; but it is still an American staple.

Fast food has its place in the culinary world.

Same way "fast food" music has its place in the hip-hop world for an analogy.

You're probably older then me; but was NY not on life support until DMX and RR entered the scene?

we should give respect where respect is due.

I definitely agree that there's a place in music for the fast food, which is what Swizz was/is.

I don’t think it's about being snobbish though, to call dude wack. That's just how people in Hip Hop speak. All rappers called other rappers wack back in the day, lol. Because they felt whoever they called wack didn't do the job as good as they did, or as dope as other people did. That's all it is. There are a lot of wack rappers and producers in Hip Hop. And a lot of the wack rappers have mad successful careers. We see them all day, everyday. And can't get rid of them! That doesn't mean that we all don’t really know those dudes are trash.

You mentioned Finesse. I quoted him earlier in the thread. He was the one that said, "We're flying all over the country and to other countries to go diggin'. We really care about the integrity of this. So we want to find a sample that no one used before, so we can give it a new life and make something classic. We're not just banging out two notes on a Casio keyboard and calling that a beat". The legends who put in that kind of work are on a different level when it comes to production and talent. Or if you take the dudes like Zaytoven, who can play mad instruments and has crazy dope beats. No mediocre or weak producer gets to skip over those guys because he hit the charts more, with less talent.

People in this thread are naming songs they never liked the night it came out as not “aging well” is mad corny. You never liked that song, keep it real, so your opinion on how it sounds in 2025 is irrelevant.
