What does he do better than LJ, Metro and Storch in your opinion?

Lil Jon's run was shorter. Metro is still growing with room to move up. Storch is pretty much what people on here try to make Swizz out to be. Storch's best work is with Dre and Timbaland. On his own, his best work is the R&B music he did. Hip Hop wise, his resume isn't that great without his work with Dre. Yes, he's great on the keys, but playing keys isn't the same as producing.

The Coli hates swizz....this thread has been done 100x already.

It boils down to envious music snobs jelly AF of swizz success.

every genre of music has a swizz. the reasoning is always the same.

Eh. In all honesty, people with ears who don’t care about charts and sales hate Swizz, lol.

Most people I know don’t even know The Coli exists. The consensus outside is that Swizz is trash. I don’t think it's just the people online. Back in '98, other successful producers were openly saying dude was wack. You can't really do that today with how things are. But back when you could just say how you felt, he was always the target for criticism.

That isn't the consensus outside. I don't know why its so hard for people yo just say, "I don't like Swizz's music because I think its wack" and keep it moving. The goal post moving, narrative pushing, and history rewrites are unnecessary.

He created classics. End of story.

Every genre of music has really talented people who hate on people who made classics that are not "proficient" in their craft.

At the end of the day all that matters is making music that resonates with people.

I remember during the prince vs MJ beef STANS would talk about how prince could play 1000 different instruments.

Who gives a AF.

Average fans don't know or care about that fact either.

You can take it to rock-n-roll. Nobody in the Ramones could read music and they played the most basic shyt. They're still considered pioneers who have a ton of hits.

You're very mad about this. I get it.

But the same way we come on here and talk, we're doing the same thing all day with our people offline. Most of the people I speak with about music are either dudes I chill with at the barbershop, or they either make music or work in the business. I don’t know any Swizz fans, bro. I'm not saying that just to get at dude. He had a moment, and during that time, I f*cked with a few joints. But he ain't no damn great Hip Hop production legend now. Come on.

He had a few classics. I don’t think anyone is trying to take that away from him.

But you can still be a trash beatmaker and get a classic or hit. We've seen that forever in music.

I think most of the people who love Hip Hop and have been listening to it since the late 80's are the average fans. Just people with ears. They would never think to compare someone like Swizz to any of the actual Hip Hop production legends. He's not anywhere close to being able to do work like those guys. It's not about playing instruments or sales, or hits. It's just talent.

And unlike The Ramones, Swizz didn't pioneer anything. I like The Ramones, difference is, they helped to start an entire punk movement here that didn't exist before they popped up from Queens. Someone else said it in this thread, I'm forgetting who, but Swizz has been called a hack since day one. Whether it was in reviews, regular listeners or fellow producers in interviews. That ain't nothing new. He never pioneered anything in Hip Hop other than mediocrity.

I'm not mad at all about this. Your statement in a thread where a podcast is discussing whether Swizz is Top 5 or not debunks your claim though. I don't think he's Top 5 or even Top 10, but ya'll are going above and beyond to push the "Swizz is wack" narrative. And have been on it since this board has been in existence.

This is what I'm getting at. Swizz definitely was a pioneer. Swizz is one of the producers who shifted the sound of Hip Hop.

see this is where I disagree; you can't call somebody trash who has a resume of hits.

And Swizz did usher in a new sound for NY ; despite how people feel about it.

RR was a movement in hip-hop.

I recently watched a YT of Lord Finesse talking about how he's updating the boom bap sound and it was dope AF.

If you asked the average fan who is Lord Finesse and who is Swizz Beatz who would be more identified by the masses by name?

This circles back to my OG point; its a music snob theme.

Same thing with rock n roll. Nobody in the Ramones was Eddie Van Halen with it.......but guess what......the Ramones brand is stamped. Nobody in the Ramones could compete talent wise to someone like Eddie Van Halen; but they're legends and will remain so.

Gordon Ramsey would probably be disgusted with burger king's "The Whopper" ; but it is still an American staple.

Fast food has its place in the culinary world.

Same way "fast food" music has its place in the hip-hop world for an analogy.

You're probably older then me; but was NY not on life support until DMX and RR entered the scene?

we should give respect where respect is due.

His best work was NOT after RR fell off.

You're in that man's pockets. Everybody else is talking about the music. That's the difference here.
Thank you, breh said "NY State of mind" is a real hip hop niche. Like Nas ain't been around the world performing that song to damn near every crowd you can think of :russ:

Nah, lol. I'm one of the bigger swizz fans you'll find (namely cus of his stuff with Cass, TI, and ofc X) but I can also attest that he was the target for mockery for some of those beats lol
