Premo best work was the 90s
Same for Dre
Timbo best work was 15-20 years ago, Same for Ye & Just
RZA been mid for 20 years
Dilla had to die to get props (show me a article or forum post saying he was one of the best ever by more than 5 people)

But Swizz got to be Lebron james lol

All of them had longer and better runs than Swizz. I'm not even gonna count Dilla because I know you keep bringing him up to troll/get responses. We're talking about super producers and legends who can walk into a hip hop environment (whether it's hardcore, mainstream/casual, etc) and get shyt bumping with big records. Swizz has some bangers no doubt. My point is that he has way more duds during his PRIME than any of these guys, and even his best beats sound dated as fukk today.

Where would place Swizz?

Comparing him to the likes of Premier and producers who regularly come up in these type of convos seriously overstates Swizz.

For me I find him difficult to place because the commercial success and impact he had in the game can't be denied but outside of a few tracks here and there I don't really like his stuff like that. He achievements do deserve respect though, yes he had some luck in the beginning with connections in the industry but he's kept his name out there for the best part of three decades.

I think Swizz is severely underrated on here largely due to him being somewhat overrated elsewhere. To me, he's Top 25-30. There was a time when Swizz was one of my favorite producers, then he fell off. He has songs I still like, but after that 1998-2001 run, his production is spotty with 2003-2007 being another peak for him.

Hes extremely polarizing. A lot of mid producers I was around at the time would get annoyed by his success. He was the only one hated like that.

That's not polarizing. Being annoyed by his success is hardly polarizing.

Swizz isn't on their level because he wasn't anywherr near consistent. In his prime he was very consistent, but his prime was shorter than the producers he's being compared to. Most producers' work sounds dated by today's standards.

His sound is predicated on energy & he gets the crowd going w/ his tunes

He's gotta be top 25 but it's not a wild argument to put him in the top 10...he's not in my top 10 but to each his own

There are several producers named who don’t have songs with rappers anywhere near as big as the songs Swizz does. Despite working with rap legends.
