Swizz is not one of the most polarizing figures in Hip Hop. That's The Booth, which as proven, is not reality. Ya'll push narratives on here and tend to think the rest of the world feels that way. This wouldn't even be a debate if that were the case. Obviously, there are people that think highly of Swizz. I don't think he's Top 5, but there are those that do.
Those people are delusional. Nobody with a decent knowledge and understanding of Hip-Hop would call him top 5.

No doubt, way too many equate something being popular with it being good. Ignoring the crazy number of trash songs, movies, shows, whatever that was hits.

And the hit song = good song crowd tend to be the most ignorant to the reality of the music business. Which is that hits are bought as much as they're made. Swizz always had the machine fully behind him due to his connections. They made sure his beats got used for singles then spent millions pushing em on the masses. He had a huge advantage over most his peers based on connections, not skill.

This has nothing to do with popularity or how big a song was. That said, I don't think a hit song especially strings of them can be be altogether dismissed.

Swizz was in no position to make sure a machine was behind him. He was 17-19 years old when he peaked. He got placements the same reason ALL producers blow up: he produced a song that blew up and he became sought after as a result. "Ruff Ryders Anthem" was huge. Why wouldn't Dee and Wah want him producing more songs? This was their marquee song. Same way No Limit had a squad of producers, but none of them got more work than KLC after "Bout It" and "No Limit Soldiers" blew up.

So artists was catering to swizz?

People like his music. Its that simple. The first beat the world heard from him was a smash. Yall penalize Swizz from working well with artists lol. RR anthem produced by Premo is left in 1998. We in 2025 that record get reaction based off .5 seconds of the beat

X is one of the most charismatic artists ever. And his style mesh very well with Swizz. I probably like Swizz more than most on here and admit he got classics. But he nowhere near top 5. Nowhere near top 5 from New York alone.

Premier top 5 beats just with BIG are better than Swizz top 5 beats ever. And Premier don't even got 5 real tracks with BIG :mjlol:

Swizz isn't better than Premo at least IMO.

Where would place Swizz?

Comparing him to the likes of Premier and producers who regularly come up in these type of convos seriously overstates Swizz.

For me I find him difficult to place because the commercial success and impact he had in the game can't be denied but outside of a few tracks here and there I don't really like his stuff like that. He achievements do deserve respect though, yes he had some luck in the beginning with connections in the industry but he's kept his name out there for the best part of three decades.
