fukk the beats. The fact this nikka thought he could make Yung Wun hot in the streets should’ve automatically gotten him the death penalty

Been wondering this. I never got deep into Dilla's music. I like what I've heard but was always wanting someone to put me on

That's the thing about Dilla though, he doesn't have that one song, he has mad of them.

I was early on his work, because I was heavy into the underground sh*t back in the day. So around '95, when he started doing that Pharcyde sh*t, even as kids we were crazy about that dude's beats. His remixes caught fire around that time too. He was making sh*t for dudes you never even saw again, but the beats were on another level! And Q-Tip is one of my GOAT's, so when I found out he was discovered by Tip and inspired by him and Pete, it was a wrap. I was searching for everything that dude worked on.

This is pre-internet. After his name hit online, a lot of the casuals and posers started the hype without really knowing his work. But even before them, he was the truth. I literally run around listening to his 90's beat tapes. STILL. He was that serious on the beats.

I don't even like Swizz but you might be right:

Dre -2001
Havoc - Murda Muzik
Premier - off NYSOM pt.2 alone
Mannie Fresh - Guerrilla Warfare, Chopper City in the Ghetto
#5?

I wasn't feeling RZA's 1999 beats
Q-Tip dropped that album that i fukking hated
Neptunes 1999 production credits aren't anything special

In 1999, I could definitely see the following being considered Top 5:

Havoc

Mannie Fresh

Timbaland

Premier

With Dre, he was creeping back into the discussions after the Summer 1996 through 1998 drought. With Em's studio debut and his work on Snoop's No Limit Top Dog. With 2001, which was late 1999, he was back at the top again.

Yea the true affects of 2001 weren't truly felt til 2000. It was classic from the first spin for heads, but once Forgot About Dre dropped in Jan. 2000, that's when the rest of the world caught up.

I forgot about Timbo
