Not everyone has reason to know what the sequester is.

Every month there's a new hot word or phrase: One month it's fiscal cliff, another month it's sequester, next month it'll be something else.

:laff: yes yes because the sequester was something that showed up a month ago

Public policy, just another hot word or phrase we can tweet :laff: :snooze:

laugh if you want, but you know exactly what I'm talking about.

You turn on the news, CNN, Fox, whatever....and several weeks ago EVERYTHING they talked about was the "fiscal cliff"....a week or two later, nothing at all. Fast forward a month it's "sequester" everything.

Point is, it doesn't matter to Joe Blow. Peope concern themselves with what's advantageous to them. You think the average person out on the street should be well versed in governmental ops? :childplease: For what? How is it benefitting them? If it's gonna happen it's gonna happen. This isn't some fairy tale issue where "one person can make a difference" :upsetfavre:

Yes, yes...who shouldn't know the ends and outs of PUBLIC POLICY. Since when does PUBLIC POLICY affect everyone.

I'm sry, but if a television is your main source for news, you've already stepped one foot in the wrong direction.

That's such a wack excuse for being dumb. "People only concern themselves with what's advantageous to them." No guy, every cent in the federal budget is important to you. Do you not pay taxes? :laff: you probably didn't even realize when your check dropped 2% after January 1st. :laff: :laff:

Man y'all give dumb people too many excuses, then every 4 years wonder why dumb people cast dumb votes for dumb politicians that do dumb things. *Ester voice* You big dummy

I'm interested to know WHERE I ever said this was about me? :ohhh: Show me that part....

I said the average Joe Blow on the street....I'm just being observant, which is something you should try. Stop being naive and a psuedo-elitist. This isnt even stuff that's taught in high school and not even college from what i remember. I had to learn what I learned on my own in regards to most of this stuff.

You're clearly disconnected from reality to believe that everyone shares your same level of interest in things that aren't top level priority to them. Average people out here are more concerned about having a job, getting by, raising their kids everyday than to sit around focusing on the same stuff you do or burying their nose into political policies of which they've NEVER had any control over. You think Trayshawn from inner-city chicago is sitting around reading the WST journal or USA Today looking at what Washington DC is doing with his paycheck? What control does he have over any of it? You think Billy Bob in rural Tenn. who works at a body shop is sitting online reading the Huff Post bloggings about this stuff. You're delusional.

Wake up.

Apologies for using "you"...I just didn't feel like saying y'all/they...I was being lazy

But stop with this nanny shyt b....

I'm tired of folks trying to separate public policy decisions from their daily lives. The train of thought is pretty simple. You're getting fukked BY the public policy you and your constituents allow.

So Trayshawn wasn't affected by a 2% hit on his payroll? That was a 50 dollar drop for people under 31k. No..no..that doesn't affect anyone anywhere.

Like, I don't get it. Policy always affects the flow of money. This IS taught in high school. What do you think the budget talks are about? How can folks complain about the state of public schools, yet not pay attention to the tax revenues at the local, state and federal level?

Sry I expect the most from fully functioning adults. I do think its interesting that you decided to pick 2 extreme cases. You don't have to be intellectually or financially poor to dumb about public policy. I argue every day with college educated people about how fukkn retarded they are about policy. Anyone can get it.

I wouldn't call it stupidity, more like ignorance. Actually, the overwhelming majority of the population is probably willfully ignorant to the topic

Okay but when you argue with these college educated ppl everyday do you factor in that a lot of them have simply never been informed of all this stuff?

Why do you just seem to expect ppl to have an intrinsic knowledge of all this stuff?

I'd guess most people these days just Google whatever the hot topic is. If all they hear about is fiscal cliff for a week then maybe they are curious enough to Google it and read what the explanation is.

Even then all they're doing is chasing their tail because they're not learning anything until its right on them(aka its too late).

you know seeing sh*t like this has to make me question all these people getting history and poli science degrees :snoop:

@BarNone :beli:

I didn't click the link, what does it show....and there are differences in the quality of degrees, no one ever said every history or poli sci major was smart. They don't do as well of a job weeding people out with prerequisites. like engineering and economics eventually does in most cases.

But Government majors score higher on standardized tests than most business majors :manny:
