Honestly I love JR, probably my all time favorite play by play man, and I still think he can be a contributor, but his work in AEW has been a major let down to me.
He's ranted on his podcast quite often about age-ism and the idea that he is too old for this being insulting and ridiculous, but it's obviously true. He's a step slower than both Tony and Excalibur on the commentary, calls moves or people by the wrong name constantly, and in general lacks much energy. And when he is super excited, it feels so forced and put on.
Bringing him for big title matches to give them a big fight feel, and using him to do profile pieces (similar to the ones he did with Mankind and Goldust in 97 that really got them over to the next level) would probably be a better use of him.
And to suggest Randy Orton is better than Kenny Omega, or really like a dozen other great guys, is laughable but very on brand for JR. Orton works an old school style so of course 60+ year old people in the business love it.
