There's a couple reasons this isn't surprising. Mayo has been a hot, rising coaching candidate for a couple of years. He's been a great defensive coach under Belichick. And Kraft has been pushing for diversity behind the scenes for years now.

He wanted to give a a rising black coach, who understands the Patriots way, and probably had the stamp of Belichick a shot. They'll make sure he gets a great OC. I'm happy for Mayo.

Good luck to Jerrod, he's got huge shoes to fill.

Hopefully he can get a quality OC to come
Haha. if his dumbass stays put, the job was basically his.

But you cant blame him, he was hired by 3 different organizations (even screwed over the Colts and still got hired again after :mjlol:)

He's basically been the defensive coordinator over the last few years. One of the problems with the Pats recently has been Belichick refusing to properly hand out coordinator jobs. Hence the nonsense with Patricia and Judge both being OC but not really, for instance.

We'll know how this works out based on his OC hire. IF he keeps doing the same weirdo shyt as Bill, or brings someone like McDaniels back, we'll know it's gonna be more of the same. Also...I would not have hired a defense coach when I'm probably picking a QB at 3.
Demeco Ryans is a defensive coach and picked a QB at 2 and they made the playoffs their first year?
