I got to (finally) see it today at the IFFR. It was really good, Nichols found an excellent way to incorporate some slight humor into the story without forcing it and detract from the seriousness of the matter at hand. He did make a daring choice to make it more of a character piece focusing on Richard and Mildred Loving, leaving much of the courtroom stuff in the background (which you'd figure would make a more compelling film). As such it's a movie that never really draws attention to itself, and certainly not a typical "look how important and culturally relevant this movie is" Oscar Bait type movie, even though it easily could've been. That is very much in line with the main characters themselves who care little for the media attention to their case and just want to be able to be together. The result is a very genuine story that chooses honesty over excitement, and I really liked it.
