I think the problem lies with self-perception and lack of knowledge.
America's industrial and financial might, relative to the powers, is a consequence of escaping the Second World War without its industrial base being destroyed unlike say Germany.
The rise of industrialization (and capitalization) in Europe and East Asia has eroded America's relative power. Acutely, the spectacular success of the Chinese Communist Party over the past 45 years hasn't really been explained to American audiences.
Americans still believe that Chinese labour is dependent on children or highly exploitative labour. They think that China is the China of 1990, in terms of infrastructure development. They think China is still closed off from the worl.d
They don't know that China had advanced robots increasingly producing much of the goods we enjoy; that many Chinese cities have better public infrastructure than American cities; and that young Chinese people consume Western media - and know who celebrities ike IShowSpeed are.
