Jason and his dad have a complicated relationship

His Dad was the coach of a Catholic school and Jason decided to go play for the RIVAL Catholic school.

His whole high school career he faced his dad multiple times a season

He only lost to his pops ONCE (the first time he played his dad's school).

After he lost once he said he vowed he would never lose to his pops again and didn't.

JAYSON WAS HEADING INTO
HIS SOPHOMORE YR
WHEN HIS POPS
GOT THE HEAD COACHING GIG AT THE
OTHER SCHOOL.

HE GOT COMFORTABLE AT HIS SCHOOL
AND DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE HIS FRIENDS.

Joe Jackson type dynamic. Worked him hard, embarrassed him and strained their relationship, but he wouldn’t be where he is today without him.

Looks like they are on good terms now though.
James Jordan situation too. Michael Jordan mentioned similar stuff about his father.

Pat Knight went through the same shyt with his father Bobby Knight. I remember hearing an interview where old man George Bush said similar things about his father Senator Preston Bush.

Good or bad, our mothers and fathers makes us who we are. As a adults we all look back and hopefully we all can make healthy adjustments.

Man, some of these parenting strategies are crazy. There are a lot of people out there who are phenomenal, best-of-the-best who had great relationships with their parents. Something to think about.

All I know is your son better make the league because if they don't you're basically asking for a strained relationship and a potential parent who doesn't know how to raise kids.

Jayson Tatum primarily made the league because he's 6'8 210 lbs.
Only ~1 million people in the world are that tall and some of those are women who wouldn't be direct competition.
That's simply not a lot more people you have to be better than. Basketball is not nearly as difficult to get your foot in the door once you have the physique for it.

There is something about Jayson you can tell he doesn't have unconditional self-confidence. That's huge when playing against the very best of the best. That'll always be his cap.

Tatum funny to me. He tries so much to be marketable. Thats his whole thing. He's a pick me type dude trying to cement himself in peoples minds.

Like this shyt was so funny how inauthentic he was trying to get a moment after winning the chip.

I'm sure bruh wanted to win final MVP so bad

I personally fukks with Jaylen Brown more and Kyrie more. Jaysons story is funny to me. Like Bradley Beal was walking him to school, Larry Hughes was your "uncle" I assume he was around pros and the story is how they struggled?

Tatum case is the rare time this actually works most kids go the exact opposite

There’s a survivorship bias since we hear these stories from athletes who made it to the highest level, as opposed to the many that didn’t.

Maybe not Tatum specifically, but other (and more extreme) cases like Roy Jones Jr, Andre Agassi, Todd Marinovich, Tua Tagovailoa, etc…

And a lot of them in your post no matter how rich and famous seem kinda miserable. Idk how Tua is but the first two...

I'd rather be a "modest" 6* coli breh with a good relationship with my fam than Agassi with Agassi's issues
