I thought everyone from Sway to Kool Moe Dee to Nas explained this over and over through the years.

L had really cold spots in his career. The worst early on being Walking with a panther and 14 shots to the dome being damn near career ending.

Jay had been more consistent in terms of maintaining a consistent success than L. Nobody has been as good as Jay as long as Jay.

But his best album..he even agree it is..wasnt that popular out the gate...vol.1 was looked at as being weaker then rd and attempt at going pop...vol.2 was built on hard knock life...vol 3 wasnt liked as much as 2...blueprint and the black album where looked at favorably but after he came back kingdom come he been hit n miss...add the rielly albums and he had more misses...so jay album wise hasnt heen that consistent...he just manage to have hit songs mixed with filler tracks on weak albums.
