Stop with that, Jay has never made an album reminiscent of Common.
People seem to forget Jay has been a braggadocio rapper since the beginning, why would he hit a conscious groove late in his career

Closest thing you'll get these days

I didnt mean exactly like Common, but how he makes the album he actually wants to make? He said himself on the black album that he dumbs down to double his dollars. ya know what I mean?

I think some of yall are missing what the threadstarters trying to say. Yea Jay is a helluva business man but u dont see him making the music he really wants to make most the time. Hes doing what the public wants him to do, hes a gimmick rapper. At this point, i mean no one can deny Jays talent so instead of catering to the public why doesnt he make a socially conscious album?

"If skills sold. Truth be told. I'd probably be. Lyricly Talib Kweli Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense (But i did five Mil) I ain't been rhymin like Common since"

Well guess what Jigga, u got all the money u can possibly have. So why not make an album displaying your rhyme skills in their purest form instead of underachieving and conforming?

At the same time, perhaps Jigga dont even care about rap anymore. I honestly think he stopped caring a while ago, money comes first to him. And he mighta always been like this as another poster alluded to, he did have that line on In My Lifetime a while ago when he said something about while others worship guns he worships large sums of money.

Jay is a great blueprint for success, just forget what u care about and do what it takes to stay relevant and make money. At the same time thats how rap ended up in its current state. It is what it is i guess, none of us can change that. But most of the fault should be placed on corporate jews and mountain climbers that play electric guitars. Thats just my 2 cents

if jay done told you on every album, almost every single song that he's out for commercial success, how do you expect shyt to be different? he wants more number 1 albums than the beatles and selling out festivals. he cares about shyt like that. you're asking someone to shift their priorities so you can respect them more :dwillhuh:

before people try to say :cape: or some bullshyt, I like jay's music but i could give a fukk less about the person. As a fan i can admit the motherfukker has faults. yeah he likes money. i'm not perfect, so i don't expect motherfukkers i listen to to be perfect neither

whos to say he doesn't wanna make this music? i could see jay on some :smugfavre: thinking saying that kweli/common line would win him some more fans, and hence more dollars. he could be on some scheming shyt like that.

it's not like lupe where we actively know that wasnt what he wanted out and he still got strongarmed :lolbron: . we just speculating, nothing is fact

The outer limits
A gimmick rapper is 90 percent of rappers in the A right now, not Jay. Cats acknowledge that Jay borrows from current trends, but it's the way that he does it that allows him to profit. I don't even fukk with Jay like that, but you have to peep game and just salute the nicca. Basically Hov see's a style that's hot, mimics it, refines it, then creates something entirely new. He's been doing that same formula for years now and winning BIG. If other cats could do it they would, but they can't...that's why you see a lot of rappers stagnate. You can't stay the same in any business your in if you want to progress, but sometimes niccas get comfortable where they're at, and that's fine.

How do you know he doesn't make music e wants to make? Is there an interview some where of him saying this? Besides if he made socially conscious album people are going to say it sounds forced.

So Jay isn't talented, but yet the majority of ppl would say he's atleast top ten.:rudy:

He isnt engaging..but yet he can sell out enormous arenas and huge festivals:rudy:
