:what: the album dropped on 9/11, but Takeover was out before that.

While this is a fact - I still hadn't heard "Takeover" until I copped the album first day...on Sept 11, 2001.

It was weird...because I left school, and there was NOBODY ON THE ROAD, yo.

I went to Best Buy to get it, and there was virtually NOBODY in there.

I drove around listening to The Blueprint, and it was like a ghost town.
(This is gonna sound hokey as fucc,)...it was like, it was just me and the music outside.

LMAO

...but yo, that day - I knew I was listening to classic material.

Jay spit the first two verses at Summer Jam in June, including the "ask Nas he don't want it wit Hov, noooooooo" line. This prompted Nas to release the Stillmatic freestyle that summer, and not long after that, Jay released the full Takeover. Summer 2001 was :whew:

If you didn't hear the Takeover until the album dropped, that's on you. :yeshrug:

I crazy thing is that back on SOHH, this dude had said he heard it and that Jay was gonna do it at Summer Jam. That poster was the same one that said that he actually had a pic of P is a ballerina get up AND dude even posted some lyrics of what would become Takeover.

And for those that first heard it on 9/11, music was not that hard to get even 16 years ago. Mixtapes, bootlegers, downloading, college radio, underground radio....I have no idea what some of y'all were doing, but it was still easy access.

I remember bumping Blueprint on the way to a Labor Day BBQ that year. Blueprint and the Fabolous albums both leaked around the same time.

Where were you and what were you doing when you first heard Take Over?
I was 14. Freshman in HS had an orthodontist appointment before school, had moms stop at best buy to cop the Blueprint. I remember getting to school as the towers fell, and watching the coverage to the soundtrack of the Blueprint. Two events I'll never forget. My favorite Jay-Z album, and was part of my transition to full hip hop head.

Edit: I thought he said Blueprint, or at least meant that, not Takeover.
