That was common back then
Where? I don’t remember it being common at all
What I do remember about battles in the 90s is you got way more props for freestyling (off the top)

Every single battle now is prewrittenInteresting how the dynamics of battle rapping have changed.
You can clearly hear Jay's mans n' nem reciting the lyrics along with him at the beginning (a clear sign of a written or pre-used jawn). You DEFINITELY ain't getting away with that in today's battle rap climate.
Is that Harry Allen in the background?
Jay was actually saying some really clever stuff in between the rhythm raps as I like to call them. 93 Em was trash. He wasn’t even doing multis yet. Em ain’t get nice til Biterphobia in 95nah breh, he rapped different but he wasnt on no bullshyt biggida bam bam...biggida bam,

Thank you. It always be nikkas in their teens and early 20s trying to tell you about how rap was in the 80s-90sIt cracks me up how cats born in the 90’s and after are commenting on battles from over 20 yrs ago.
As a cat in cyphers back then, rhyming different parts with your man was crazy common and effective. Sometimes the opposing cat may have anticipated your lines and tried to finish your shyt like it ain’t special.
And most battle rappers these days are pre written.
