If we're talking sheer musical knowledge (theory as well as history...), I think
I've got a pretty good grasp on either and I'd say Kendrick's album was well above average.

:yeshrug:
Maybe I need to revisit it...I remember listening to it wasn't blown away at all and usually if its a classic album like yall guys are preaching I should have got the message..

Content of character?:mjlol: So u judging a nikka character who u do not know personally...:russ:

I don't know Kendrick but I give him the benefit of the doubt that his shoe is intended to be a symbol of unity. U think he's fraud with it and his shoe won't really end gang activity because you are lame and it was only meant to be a symbol/ expression
Makes a whole lot more sense than blindly Believing in him cause he's black

album ain't praised for the message, but for the musical composition.

like for example, the greatest jazz musician of the past 5 years (Kamasi Washington) worked on it, and it features his actual best work.

no jay actually raps and he's way better than kendrick lamar hotep fake preacher man

i never meet a lamar fan that can recite his lyrics on the spot from his hot garbage album ...all they do is sing "alright... alright... alright or black man take no losses"

:russ: true

I wasn't moved by the musical composition at all. However, I'm not a jazz fan at all.

If this album relies so heavily on jazz and funk, why isn't it considered a jazz/funk hybrid? How can y'all judge the hip hop community for not fukking with an album that aint even hip hop?

I haven't called it a classic, I personally just think it's a great album.
Only time will tell if it's classic with that said, I've had a tough
time getting some "Classic" albums off the first listen.

It's usually after a few listens and sitting on certain songs that I come around
to understanding what the artist intended.
