People actually get this somewhat misconstrued. It's true they used to compete with eachother and beef but the only reason Tommy became the leader is because the red, yellow, and black ranger held out. When that happened they actually changed the lines that was already filmed for when the white ranger came and zordon said he was the new leader. The red ranger got fired because of the hold out.
