Can brehs put me on to Japanese wrestling? I've never watched, but always been interested cause it's always Japanese matches that be getting these 5 stars from Big Dave. :lupe:

They do storylines too?

How to start watching faithfully?

I got questions. :lupe:

How to start watching faithfully?

I got questions. :lupe:

1.- Most easy to follow Japanese promotion is New Japan Pro Wrestling, it also is the most popular and critically acclaimed promotion from Japan too (and the 2nd biggest wrestling company in the world).

If you have $10 you can subscribe to their streaming service New Japan World they show pretty much every show they do live, you can watch it on demand too. There are sites like dailymotion and Watchwrestling that upload their matches and shows so you can watch for free too, specially watchwrestling.

2.- It's kind of hard to give a list were to begin to be honest :patrice: I guess the best way to start watching right now would be with this year's G-1 Climax tournament. I'm sure other brehs can give you a more detailed list than me (I don't watch as much New Japan as others in here) @Cobratron @The Rainmaker @El Villano Ingobernable .

3.- One thing to keep in mind is the way Japanese wrestling promotions do their shows. It basically goes likes this.

-Each month there's a tour where they work a bunch of shows, most of them are worked like "house shows" with a bunch of multi man tag matches that (sometimes) build to a bigger matchup down the line.

-Each tour has at least 1 big show - you could call it a PPV level event - were they book title matches and they go all out in the ring. In the case of New Japan, they now have like 2 or even 3 shows with important matches in each tour. After the big tour ender, they take 1 or 2 week break before starting a the next tour.

-There are tournaments that are held yearly. There is one for the Junior Division (cruiserweights), one for the Heavyweight Division and one for Tag Teams. In New Japan's case it's the Best of the Super Junior (May-June), the G-1 Climax (July-August, thogh next year it will be held later due to the Olympics) and the World Tag League (November-December), respectively.

-Each big show has a thread in TSC so you can follow along with the brehs :myman:

4.- They do have storylines but for the most part, they are not presented like US wrestling. Most promos are done in press conferences and backstage interviews after each match.

5.- Almost every puroresu company has a streaming service. I think New Japan is the best one to start with but if you are curious for more stuff just ask and we'll give you the piff :salute:

Catching up on my BJW backlog. Sekimoto & The Bodyguard vs Hama and fat Taichi was okay, didn't really get into it. Hama moving like a minivan filled with lard and four flat tires certainly didn't help.

Nomura vs Okabayashi was dope though, especially the final stretch when they were slapping the shyt out of each other's faces. :whoo:

Daisuke Sekimoto vs WALTER - wXw Toronto 8/9/19
https://www.bilibili.com/video/av64209748/?spm_id_from=333.788.videocard.8

Main problem of this match to me was the audio/venue. It's a very small building and the ring mics are turned down because for some reason we have to hear fukking Alan4L do a bland job on commentary, give me the full sound of these two chopping and hitting each other full strength than a dude telling me stuff I already know or can just read online.

This is the match Sekimoto should've had with Elgin, imo. It's shorter, there's more struggle for control and the excess hurts less because the match isn't so long. Still, I was disappointed the first 5 minutes with WALTER working the neck were just complete filler and didn't matter at all, they made me think we were gonna get one of those "struggle for every move" type of Strong BJ matches. Now, there is some of that in the here - which were the best parts imo - but it takes a backseat over trading big power moves. And make no mistake about it, these two did not hesitate in beating the shyt out each other.

A good match, specially considering this was WALTER's 6th match in 3 days (:mjtf:). But can't help but feel this would've been better with no commentary/better audio and a crowd that didn't felt like a hyped up EVOLVE audience. These kind of hoss battles aren't meant for this type of settings imo.

Daisuke Sekimoto & Takuya Nomura vs Michael Elgin & Masaaki Mochizuki - BJW 8/25/19
Daisuke Sekimoto & Takuya Nomura vs. Masaaki Mochizuki & Michael Elgin

My oh my :banderas: one of those matches that just stays in it's lane because there's no need for it to be anything else. Basically four guys beating the shyt out of each other and trying to out do their opponents in every striking department for 16 minutes. Daisuke/Elgin are the hosses and Nomura/Mochizuki are the smaller guys whose kicks and slaps are fukking vicious. I need more Mochizuki in Big Japan to be honest, because of course he fits perfectly here. Elgin once again is showcased like a beast and does well in this role, he continues to feel special like he did in the Sekimoto match the day before. Young Gawd has another good performance here, showing fire, resilience and most importantly, the most stiff and disrespectful slaps in the biz @SubZeroDegrees All four guys looked great here, very good tag match. Loved Sekimoto imploring Nomura to keep fighting in the end. @The Rainmaker let Mochi introduce you to that Strong BJ life :dame: :blessed:

Yuji Okabayashi vs Kohei Sato - BJW Strong Heavyweight Title 8/25/19

Yuji Okabayashi (c) vs. Kohei Sato

I mean, what else would you expect from this match other than also being a contest of two dudes trying to send the other one to hell via vicious strikes? Chop vs Kick. Lariat vs Elbow. Fired up dude vs stoic dude. Normal voice vs reptile. It's basically the same match Sato had with Sekimoto in January but with Yuji. So yeah, it's pretty fukking great :ohlawd: @TheGodling @Scottie Drippin @3Rivers @Ace of the Metropolitan

ZSJ promised to pull up on Boris Johnson :russ:

Dude has been on fire on the mic for the best part of this year. :wow:

And the wild thing is, most of the people who he cuts these promos in front of live, probably have no idea what he's screaming about. :mjlol:
