I couldn't get into this match. Jay White is hollow to me, and Juice is a solid talent, but not my cup of tea.

That knda shocks me, both did an excellent job as pure baby face and heel. I'm no Jay White fan at all but dude did his thing in the match. What did the match lack, in your opinion?

I just don't care for the talent, I guess.

Jay White lacks emotion, it's like he's just going through the motions in his matches. His heel work in that match was passable, but he could've been more into it. Plus that gimmick doesn't fit him. He's not bad in the ring, but I can't get into him.

White has been a black hole since WK but I'm not sure what else he could've done Saturday. I mean sure, more viciousness and facial expressions would've ideal but I can't expect that from him at this point, him mocking Juice and all those nicely timed cutoffs were more than enough for me to get passed his previous snoozefests. And his work on the hand was good too, specially the Fujiwara armbar bit.

It kinda reminded me of Bryan vs Wyatt at RR 14'. Were the heel performance is made very easy because the face is great in his role, it even had the same formula as that match.

Jay White vs Juice Robinson - US Title match NJPW G1 Special 7/7/18

Hey look at that, Jay White wasn't dead after all. Juice's babyface performance was dope as fukk, dude was money with his facial expressions, selling and timing for every hope spot and comeback he had, that shyt ain't easy to do and he's got it down pat . White did his thing too though, specially with the timing of the cut off spots - either by taking advantage every time Robinson pumped himself up and/or pandered to the crowd or just not letting Juice get momentum after an initial comeback attempt - and his heel work, I specially liked him mocking Juice and doing his jabs. This didn't feel like your typical "let's trade shyt/your turn my turn" match that most New Japan matches end up being after the first 1/4 or 1/3 of the action, and I appreciated that greatly. This had very little excess - I could've lived without a couple of the suplex/bumps on the outside they did, and Juice's fighting spirit spot bombed, but that's just nitpicking - and just 1 nearfall (that was pretty fukking great) and that's right up my alley. Top notch stuff, I wish they had a better crowd to call it a top 5 match of the year but whatever, it's still pretty damn awesome.


PS: Jim Ross is beyond horrible as play by play and Barnett brings nothing to the table as a color guy, I was kinda pissed I wasn't able to find a link with Japanese commentary

I actually fell asleep right the Takahashi/Dragon Lee and woke at the beginning of Omega/Rhodes. So I got to watch this match later.

I do agree with SF Crowd. shyt was terrible. I know it was going to be bad when they chant Tanahashi instead of Go Ace.

Crowd slept through the whole show, imo.

No comment on Ross and Borenett.

That's my biggest problem as well. Just doesn't seem believable right now. Looks more like a kid in a Halloween costume than a real killer

I remember being when people were excited about White doing that dumb ass "I hate the BC so I'll join CHAOS to destroy it from within" angle after WK. 7 months later and all he has to show is 1 very good match were he lost the title

I hope dude is legit healthy. Can't say I'm excited to see him back considering it took a LOT for him to have great performances.

Switchblades gimmick stands out, it’s over the top sure but for me it’s fresh given that wrestling has so few characters these days. I don’t mind him or cats like EVIL doing shtick even if it’s a little corny to westerners.

Besides; a brooding, edgy killer foreigner with hair swept to one side is prime bait for female fans in Japan.

He’s quietly a strong promo too despite his age. Dude embarrassed Hangman Page at the SSE press conference (said Page is a barnacle on Bullet Club and is Codys real bytch not Brandi).
