Not Naito :sadcam:

My man Ishii ALWAYS delivers when they give him a chance. Every year he gets 1 mainevent in Korakuen en he rocks the damn house. He had a MOTYC with Wataru fukking Inoue in 09'...the man deserves more opportunities :to:

Funaki as TC champ is disappointing. Hopefully we get a Nagata singles match though, that would be heated as fukk.

The number one contender's match for the TC was Funaki/Nagata, if I remember correctly. Funaki won in 9:38, to be specific.

It's legit. Those types of short matches are actually staples of matches including MMA or ex-MMA guys. They're usually fast, frenetic and really fukking stiff.

Case in point: Possibly the best 6-7 minute match ever (Mysterio/Punk is second, BTW...):

Toshiaki Kawada vs Kaz Fujita - YouTube

DAMN i used to HATE Fujita. Like HHH hate lol Might have to check that match out though though i think Funaki/Nagata would be a better fight imo.

Naito though...

**edit** Just saw the Nagata posts

Kinda feel the same. I wanna get put on though. I was big into AJPW back in the Misawa/Kobasi/Akiyama/Kawada/Taue days, and I followed NJPW Sasaki, Lyger, etc, and early NOAH.

Pretty much the latest generation of Puro stars I'm familiar with are KENTA and Marufuji. I'm familiar with NOAH's roster up to Misawa's death and then I stopped following.

I'm not familiar with the new NJPW but everyone is saying it's amazing. Any great matches on youtube I can check out.

What's going on with KENTA and Marufuji now?

Is Aikyama still in the game? Kobashi?

Akiyama had the best World title run of 2012.

I think it's safe to say this Triple Crown run is better than any of his three GHC runs. I feel like finally getting the Triple Crown meant a fukking ton to him. This was the title he was being groomed for for years, AJPW the company he was supposed to broad shoulder into the new decade. He definitely turned back the clock in these matches.

Kobashi keeps getting injured and when he does wrestle it's kinda depressing to watch, guy is so broken down he can barely move, but he still insists on doing his spots in slow motion, sad.

He even got a GREAT match out of Omori, which is quite a feat.

Also if we're talking great short matches I'll throw this up, a good reminder of Shibata's greatness too:

No fukking around in that one

KENTA and Marufuji are heavyweights now (openweights would be a better description though). Both are washed up and way too injury prone. They can still have dope matches from time to time, but they don't have any consistency.

Akiyama can still go. When motivated he still one of the best heavyweights in puro.

Kobashi is a wreck at this point. He can't have singles matches and keeps getting injured even though he only works tags.

There's way too much piff from New Japan in the last 4-5 years. Gotta be a little more specific.

Recently or the ones from AJPW? The ones back in the day were good but it was Akiyama carrying him like most others do. Gotta watch that Shibata match later :leon:

Yeah that's the one, might as well throw it up

Crowd helps this a lot, and it's clear that Akiyama is doing some carrying here as well, but I liked it a lot. Akiyama totally kills his arm and looks totally vicious for most of this, of course Omori kinda just shakes it off (smh) but it's good stuff, mostly Akiyama though it must be said.

Watched the KENTA/Maru match today, thought I would hate it but it wasn't really bad, the usual problems these dudes have, it's pretty funny the way KENTA just shrugs off all the knee work, but it's watchable as a spotfest. The stomp 13:00 in is fukking insane
